Reaction to the word cloud:
bite born canary death dig open sick stop teeth tongue uglier wobbly yummy
(Dm) Death bites deep as soon as you're born
Life (Bb) digs an open grave a(C)waiting your surrender
The (Dm) man with the scythe views you with scorn
(Bb) Laughs at redemption: that (C) great pretender
(Gm) Life goes on they (Dm) tell you
There's a (C) reason for all (Dm) this
What(Bb)ever your choice of (Dm)fantasy
It (Bb) won't stave (A) off death's (Dm) kiss
Whenever you're sick, you fear life will end
The canary in the coal mine is how you're breathing
You're desperate now your days to extend
You bite your tongue as you dread your leaving
You're so concerned your life will stop
That beautiful view just seems more ugly
You grit your teeth go out to shop
But your confidence has just got wobbly
You think you're mature, take it all in your stride
When things go right it all seems yummy
But when the hearse goes past you can't stay dry eyed
You wish you could run home to your Mummy

I love the ukulele picking.
Words are deep, stone cold and dark, but somehow, singing it makes it less gloomy. It's a hopeless laugh at the face of death.
Learnt what stave off meant. Thanks.

This is a delightfully dark ballad sung and performed in the style of a medieval bard sitting by a roaring fire in a small tavern! I love, Love, LOVE this!!!

momento mori indeed.
It's almost like a minstrel's dark reminder in the king's court on at the ball. Delivered with some revolutionary spit that the noble merrymakers laughingly mistake as delightfully ironic humor.
In that context, and it strange how music evokes pictures, it's a "who laughs last" song to me. Good one.

Very cool lyrics. You incorporatethe chosen words very organically. The chorus melody is a definite earworm :)

Imreally like it when a song stands on its own as this does. Can’t tell it came from a word list challenge.

You're such a clever storyteller. I love the ebb and flow of your melodies and I like songs that feel haunting or dark. This totally did and I really enjoyed the listen.

Really enjoy! For some reason I am craving The Wailin' Jennys to join you!

Very deep lyrics for the short time! All the random words of the word cloud fall beautifully in place.

Great plaintive performance! really like the swift descending resolution on the chorus.

i'm doing a random song listen
this one got past the 2 minute mark - good job - actually kept me to the end
i'm also waiting for a skirmish prompt to grab me

Wonderful song. Great rendition. Love the way you've incorporated the words from the cloud! Wobbly!
@theodamus Feb 2022
Oooooh this has such a nice jaunty rolling rhythm with the fingerpicking. That chorus needs an entire bar to sing along. Really nice!
