Feels like I need a co-writer. This is only the first half of a song. Might finish it tomorrow.

Last Gasp
Moss Bliss
Worked hard to to get by for so long
And then last year, my mama died
Always struggling, trying to get ahead
Now I wonder why I even tried.
Not that long ago, I could have made it
I held my head up on the road
Been kicked around and I’ve suffered
Now I can’t shoulder a light load
I always dreamed that I’d get here
Always saw things just out of my grasp
Always just one piece missing from the puzzle
Now I feel it’s my last gasp
Standing in the road, looking behind me
Been so long and hard, climbing this hill
It’s all I can do to catch my breath and wonder
If I have enough strength to walk on still
I always dreamed that I’d get here
Always saw things just out of my grasp
Always just one piece out of the puzzle
Now I feel it’s my last gasp
verse and chorus, 2/5/22, amended and rewritten 2/11/22

I think you are right that it needs another verse or two, Moss. Very relatable lyrics; worth coming back to.

It’s quite striking in its shortness, I feel like the cut-off feeling (ending at “Nearly my last gasp” could be a neat little tension trick if you wanted it to be! It’s super relatable just as it is :)
