Yay! Got my first one for this year.
And it's dedicated to my FAWM friend @AlyxanderJames who recently started SEMINARY SCHOOL!!!
So fun fact about me... For a pretty long time (about 15yrs), I played in a band with a group of friends I met at a UU Church I attended. And we kinda cut our teeth, so to say, playing hymns and inspirational music once a month for a couple of years.
So this is a little nod to that.
And a quick side note: I recorded this using Reaper and I'm not used to Reaper and don't know what I'm doing with Reaper and I hate Reaper and I almost started crying about four different times while trying to figure out Reaper and so this didn't turn out exactly how I wanted and I really wanted this to sound really big with organs and a choir and big and did I mention I hate Reaper?
Enjoy. : )
oh there were times
I didn’t think i could go on
so much uncertainty and doubt
the world upended
nothin’... nothin’ was feeling right
but then I saw the Light
V2
I know you feel it too
I can see it in your eyes
So much pressure from all sides
Feels like the weight of the world
rests on your shoulders
Ease your burden look for the Light
CHORUS
can you see the light?
i can see the light (at the end of the tunnel)
oh I swear to you
these dark times are almost gone
can you see the Light
V3:
and when that day comes
when we take our last breath
and we hear the voices of angels and our ancestors
take comfort and respite
knowing you did your very best
and there’s a Light at the end
CHORUS
can you?... can you see the light?
i can see the light (at the end of the tunnel)
oh I swear to you
these dark times are almost gone
can you see the Light
CHORUS
can you?... can you see the light?
i can see the light (at the end of the tunnel)
oh I swear to you
these dark times are almost gone
can you see the Light

What a gorgeous sweet melody and vocal. Beautiful song. I really enjoyed it, especially the chorus.

I like the feel of this. The pace allows the lyric to develop in your mind! I love the vox its just right for this

You have a cool understated voice. Since your voice is quiet the recording really brings to forefront a lot of other elements of the singing that maybe would otherwise be missed. You can really hear the air in your breath and subtle percussive elements of speech. It really draws you in. It, counter-intuitively makes everything sound big (maybe big isn't the right word...I'm not good with words)
I can relate to being frustrated with the software we use :)
Good work!

Love it! You got the vibe. I grew up on this kind of music too.
I hear you on the frustration front trying to get your recording to sound the way you want. Push through. It gets better as you go.

This is the spiritual anthem we need right now, thank you! The lyrics on the verses are great and the chorus is so soulful and catchy. I can hear a choir of voices singing. Beautiful first fruits.

loved the song Wren so gentle and subtle. I don't know anything about Reaper but I certainly sympathise about when the technology seems to be getting in the way rather than helping. I love it when a song feels totally unique like this one did for me. great.
@miga Feb 2022
it's so frustrating when what you put out doesn't match what you imagined! But I have to agree with the other comments that this is definitely sweet, uplifting music. Loved the "amen, y'all" at the end!!
@elesimo Feb 2022
This is so lovely, Wren! I agree with other comments that this is amazing even if it's not your initial vision — the soft voice and guitar make it feel very personal. And you can always revisit this song during March Album Production Month! :)

So lovely and gently soulful! An uplifting lullaby.
@jorh Feb 2022
What a beautiful, uplifting message. I love that chorus - the repetition of the see the light as a question and then as a statement was super effective. Very catchy hook with the 'end of the tunnel' part too.

Wren, this is so lovely!! I’m sorry Reaper was giving you trouble, but the end result is stunning. The gentle delivery is so soothing and uplifting. Thinking back to last year, it sounds like you’re getting more comfortable finding your voice - you sound great here! I love this so much. Thank you, friend!!
@intoyourlight Feb 2022
Thank you, that was so beautiful! I like these soft vocals of yours. The song hit me right in the feels, had some weird and sad dreams last night, so this was perfect to cheer me up!
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
Oh Wren this is stunning. Your voice sounds like you're whispering right into my ear, I got chills. Soothing and comforting like a lullaby. It could definitely hold up to some big instrumentation but powerfully stands on it's own with just the guitar.
One thing I really missed after the leaving the church was the worship music, everyone singing together, not embarrassed to really feel the music and be spiritually moved. Thank you, this nourished my soul.

Nice write! I'm glad you overcame the technical hurdles to get this one out, even if it doesn't quite match what you heard in your head. Practice really does make better (if never perfect) with tools like a DAW, just as with your voice or an instrument.
FWIW, I could definitely hear the choir you wanted on the ending chorus.
