This is long... mostly stream of consciousness. So I had to edit much musical rambling. It’s born from soul searching, prompted by my brother’s unexpected death at the end of last January. Though he was 12 years my senior, we were very close. In the last year of his life, we talked often about the severe abuse we received from our father. I learned the necessity of forgiveness a little
sooner than he, largely because of witnessing the ravages of unforgiveness in my brother’s life. In his final two years, he could let go of most of the anger and the change in his life was remarkable. His passing made me aware of skeletons still rattling about in my closet, which have a strong negative impact on the ole self-image. I think there will be other songs dealing with these things... Sorry.
UNDERNEATH IT ALL
Lately I’ve been a child of Saturn
Lately I’ve been feelin so many things
I’ve been a little off kelter
A little helter-skelter
Lately I’ve been fishin round in muddy streams
I’ve been restless
I’ve been weary
A time or two I have been desperate
Drowning in the Mystery
The Mystery
And there is a happy sadness
There is an exquisite madness
Underneath it all
Lately I’ve been watchin all my solid conclusions
Watchin all the things I thought I knew
Vanish like illusion in this cloud of confusion
Where the only solid thing is you
BREAK
So much of what we see is just illusion
Little worlds we build for security
But space is expanding
And grace is demanding
We open our eyes
To the rest of our lives
I’ve been restless
I’ve been weary
A time or two I have been desperate
Drowning in the Mystery
The Mystery
And there is a happy sadness
There is an exquisite madness
Underneath it all

beautiful guitar and lyrics (pretty impressive if it's stream of consciousness!) Please don't apologize for singing about difficult things - I think song is a powerful vehicle for heavy thoughts and a gentle invitation to engage for those who hear it. This song is certainly that kind of invitation.

Ravages of unforgiviness. Where the victim gets to suffer all over again.
Lots of feeling in that voice. The guitar is lovely. Very good indeed
The percussion into the break is fantastic.

Not bad. Like a troubadour from some bygone age retelling the most free form galactic mind expanding journey of life he has undertaken. Good amount of word play pulls it back from folk ballad to a more modernist sentiment. Pretty cool!
