Feb 2022 synth regret harmonies
I've been struggling all day (and yesterday!) to finish a song. I don't usually hit writer's block during FAWM; typically I'll just bang out some synth-loop bleep-bloop nonsense that never really goes anywhere, or write some silly lyrics about vampires or something, and call it a day. But for some reason I wasn't satisfied with that route this week, and I really wanted to take my writing up a step.
After banging my head against the keyboard all day long, I was about to throw in the towel when I decided to re-listen to this little 20-second loop I had made some time last year. It's the kind of thing that I usually would have turned into an instrumental loop-based piece, but suddenly I found myself singing lyrics over it, and before I knew it, I had a song on my hands. And I like it!
This was also my first time playing with Reason's Redrum programmable drum machine, and that's definitely something I'd like to play with again soon.
This one is about staying too long when you know it's time to leave.
You, you never see the aftermath
You, you never feel the wake
I, I always say yes when I mean no
I, I am my greatest mistake
We, we never made any sense at all
We, we were just a dream
Now, now I see that it was all my fault
Now, I'm waking with a scream
[bridge]
Here and now
Is all we ever get
Here and now
Is all there is
Yesterday's
A game that children play
And tomorrow's just a wish
So, so I guess it's time we said goodbye
So, so this has all been great
And, I guess you're wondering what took me so long
Why, why'd I hesitate
Why'd I hesitate

The rhythmic play between the melody and the backing tracks is nicely hypnotic. Great airy choir vocals. Super cool tune. The lyrical feel flows awesomely.

Some songs take time. And sometimes you're stuck. I'm happy that I only had some smaller problems until now. Your song reminds me a bit of The Postal Service. Weird rhythms, great lyrics, calm and uneasy at the same time. Great choice to sing over it.

Strong lyrics, especially...
"Yesterday's A game that children play
And tomorrow's just a wish"
And just love those harmonies! Intriguing melting pot of rhythms, low swirly synths and occasional frenzied guitars. Nice work!
Goodbye writer's block :)

Gee this is nice. The frenetic drums underneath the slow melody works incredibly well, then that guitar slides in. Very good.
Your voice is great too, and the effects are done nicely.
