Feb 2022 toycore instrumental samples
Made exclusively with samples from the BBC Sound Effects library - these are recorded sounds of toys (https://sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk/search?cat=Toys).
I chopped them up, applied effects, and turned some of them into instruments.
Musical Push Along: xylophone
Teddy Bear: organ
Mama Doll: cuica or strange violin?
Suzy Doll: vocal accents
I spent way too much time on this. It's only a minute long, and I think that's just about right.

This is crazy and cool. This should be an animated short of some kind. An abandoned landfill with toys wandering about, or something. Kudos.
@shauna161 Feb 2022
this is amazingly cool!!! I love it, and it's absolutely perfect that these sounds are toys - it generates some amazing and magical mental images for me!
@andygetch Feb 2022
This is quirky and fun. I feel like it would also make a great intro or transition song as part of a longer piece.
@robs Feb 2022
Very creative, fun to listen to!
@tiller2 Feb 2022
So fun and inventive. I love that you named the toys; having characters sparks the imagination and makes me think of "Peter and the Wolf." Nice to know about the sound effects library; I might know how to use them in a decade or so.

That is a very trippy soundscape-journey. And I think you have sent me down a rabbit hole with the BBC samples.
@eargoggle Feb 2022
Wow! This is amazing! What’s the one that sounds almost like a clavinet? That bass line, so awesome. I can see how this would just suck you in…I think maybe we should have a fawm just for toy sample songs.
@potentialspam Feb 2022
This is brilliant! Major Tim Burton vibes.
@elesimo Feb 2022
This was super fun, I loved listening to it. I always enjoy your computer experiments! So creative and pleasant, even if a bit creepy!
@markg Feb 2022
Sounds both familiar (toy xylophone) and unfamiliar. There's a melody, and much else more.
@ttg105 Feb 2022
Evil toys! Creepy and gothic and lots of fun to listen to. You should develop this into a two-hour opera!
@zecoop Feb 2022
CRAY and soooooo cool. I want my brain to be this non-linear. One of my all time favs is Laurie Anderson and this isn't that, but if you combine her music with TMBG and about three other bands.... no, it still isn't even close. I loved every second and every second was worth it!! :) This had me grooving and is a 2022 FAWM fav
@aeye Feb 2022
This is super creative. I love hearing when someone cuts up samples and processes them to build something new.
@nancyrost Feb 2022
Hilariously creative - love how the processing and tonal choices make the toy sounds distorted and mildly disturbing. The one that's pitched way down (Mama Doll?) is a particularly cool touch, and it's great against that toy xylophone like the one I had.
@nateger Feb 2022
This is incredible! Amazing collage of haunted kids toys. I love how you manipulated the sounds. Brilliantly composed - the interlocking parts work together so well! Bravo
