To kick off FAWM 2022 I wrote some absurd lyrics about a ne'er-do-well who gets his comeuppance in a scary little town; @OhLeeOh brought it to life with some fun mandolin and I provided some vox (I've always secretly wanted to add some ba-ba-da-da's to a tune, so here we are.
Verse:
Reason don’t dwell here where the goodbyes go bad
And a heartfelt hello hasn’t often been had
Where the dogs in the yards bare their teeth as you pass
And their owners make sure your feet don’t touch their grass
A wanderer brought here by chance on a whim
Walks timidly knowing all eyes are on him
Will he find a kind face in this dismal old place?
Should he tighten his laces and quicken his pace?
Chorus:
Despite his misgivings of impending horrors
He slowly keeps walking on by…
He was hung out to dry
Verse:
They sniffed out his secret, this man with his wallet
Grown fat from his scams, cons, whatever you call it
Run out of Toledo when his partner high-tailed it
When a gate wouldn’t open, he awkwardly scaled it
Best to keep moving, keep trouble behind him
He’d like to lie down but don’t know what’d find him
So tired and worn down from his days on the lam
But the townsfolk pursue, his surrender demanded
Chorus:
They cornered him down by the old empty lot
They told him reach for the sky
He was hung out to dry
He was hung out to dry
He was hung out to dry
O what a shame to be found out this way
Though he’d certainly earned his demise…
He was hung out to dry

I like how the mandolin is in the front and the vocals sound like it's coming from further away. Well done.

Nice work, Has a “Divine Comedy” vibe. The lyrics are a fantastic story, like a mini movie plot. Brilliant.

Cool riff, loved this, thanks.

Love the sound of this one -- great mandolin! Kind of a shaggy-dog story with a more poignant ending than I expected.
@andyt13 Feb 2022
Nice delivery! No comeuppance!!!! LOL
@nadine Feb 2022
Oh I just noticed there's a major update. I didn't expect this kind of song, but the mandolin is so upbeat and fun. The chorus is super catchy. I love the ba ba baaa!

Sounds great! Thanks for letting me know the demo was up. Nice collab!
@ohleeoh Feb 2022
Sooooo coooooool! Hell yeah.
@colgoo Feb 2022
I look forward to hearing your collaboration on this! The rhythm of this reminds me of the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go.
Sadder story and ending….so I’m not sure why that particular verse was brought to mind for me….

Great lyrics man. I also hear some country ot bluegrass in this one. Hope you find a cool musician :-)
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
Another solid lyric by you, Chris. I look forward to hearing you sing this!
@chrismyth02 Feb 2022
Mandolin would be so cool! Feel free to give it a go. Let me know if you come up with something.

I would like to put some chords to this. 12 string is an 11 string at the moment, but maybe the mandolin or autoharp will fill the need.
I enjoyed reading this and felt a cadence that is pretty neat. Good job.
