Wrote this one yesterday and spent two late nights putting it together. Had trouble with the mix, but those that know me know that after a very short while I cba to tinker anymore.
This is about dream-cheating.
am I dreaming
colourful feelings
parallel unions
power cuts every time, time
oh, these hard lines
I wish you’d phone me in the evening
my horoscope says that you're leaving
I said ‘I’m nothing without you’
‘cause that’s what lovers say
am i sleeping?
pillows, sebum
it’s not happening every time
it’s all that I could muster up, up
hardware slump
deoxyribonucleic
Don’t leave me hanging with a double tick
I said ‘I’m nothing without you’
‘cause that’s what lovers say
I wish you’d phone me in the evening
my horoscope says that you’re leaving
I said ‘I’m nothing without you’
‘cause that’s what lovers say
and that’s how lovers think
I wish you’d phone me in the evening
my horoscope says that you’re leaving
I said ‘I’m nothing without you’
‘cause that’s what lovers say
Head, belly, back and a mistake,
My heart beats slowly in 12/8
I said ‘I’m nothing without you’
‘cause that’s what lovers say
and that’s how lovers think

What's that twangy instrument you're using? Don't think I've heard you do one of those before! Sounds a bit like this awesome band I know from Kyoto. Nice Grandaddy reference. The airy harmony-laden hooks are sweet, and those guitar arpeggios before the final chorus give a cool 70s retro feel, like all 90s indie bands need.
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
I listened to this early on and apparently forgot to comment?! Glad for the excuse to listen again, though, because this is a gem. Love the catchy chorus and your dreamy background vocals. The guitars, especially that nice doubled line, are excellent. Deoxyribonucleic is a bold word choice, I tip my hat.
@drivebylovefest Feb 2022
That intro! I could have listened to that for ages. Why u so gud? why? Your lyrical creativity is so inspiring. You must have so much fun late at night recording.
@jbp123 Feb 2022
Can't believe it's taken me so long to get round to commenting on this, sorry man! I really like the arrangement - I don't know if you ever knew Rotary Ten but presume you did - this reminds me of them a little, apart from the baa baa bit. Enjoyed the guitar bits a lot and the overall classic indie vibes. Lovely stuff
@guatecoop Feb 2022
Oooohhh, that flowing synth intertwining with the guitar....Tasty. This one has a really nice flow to it. So much going on here that I like. The lead keyboard part in the "solo" role is a great addition. Some of that vintage sound in a modern song....Well done again!
@hbusse Feb 2022
Your ear for combinations of sounds/tones is incredible. Getting vibes of Radiohead on the early verses, and The Shins in other places here. Loving that syncopated rhythm in the choruses, and the "bah bah" vocals.
@kendrakinsey Feb 2022
Wow that’s an interesting topic. The sound is so full. So many interesting word uses!
@tangle Feb 2022
So damn good. The chorus is my favorite, especially that descending guitar line. And that harmony guitar line between choruses...MAN! Really creative topic too.
@hanley Feb 2022
Wow you’re a super rad fully fledged indie one person band! What can’t you master? Great building between the sections, and once that synth drops in I instantly feel the urge to turn my headphones up! Love all the triplet guitar riffs that pick it up even another level. Perfection
@seemanski Feb 2022
How dare you? Dream cheating is still cheating Great to hear some stuff of yours that doesn't just leave my asking, how the Smeg did he do that every 5 seconds. This is well crafted words delivered really well. Did I detect a bit of spitfire orchestra at the start?
@woolford Feb 2022
In the verses, your soft background adds the effect of dream-like atmosphere- truly magical. I love a song that makes me look up words too. This is an excellently put together piece. Watchlisted.
@owl Feb 2022
Love the production, has a really nice warm feel, smooth as butter vocals, and pleasing jangle. The start-stop instrumental bit is cool and the disco-y hats in the instrumental solo part are a great change-up. Like everyone else, I admire the use of “deoxyribonucleic” in the lyrics (although I’m not totally sure I get it!)
@susyblue Feb 2022
Ohhhh pop star Ad - if pop were intelligent and made you look up words like 'deoxyribonucleic' :) An aural sweet sweet hug and catchy as
@jackdawfactories Feb 2022
This is a really lovely track, but that chorus in particular is an absolute banger. Took me right back to my indie teens in the late 90s!
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
So much indie goodness here! The little rhythmic skip as we head into chorus is great and the arrangement is en point (as always with your good self). The little proggy guitar runs towards the end are awesome. Cracking lyric too!
@lanasolyluna Feb 2022
This is a beautiful song, but the chorus really gets me, super catchy. I also like the lyrics here, but the first block especially. Well, I'll be singing this all night...and probably mispronouncing deoxyribonucleic
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
Jesus, have I been mispronouncing 'deoxyribonucleic' all my life? Is that why I don't have any biologist friends? Mmm, nice feel to this, loose-feeling despite the subject matter, and your usual vivid but elliptical lyrics.
@leah0k Feb 2022
Man that chorus!
Your chord choices are spot on and the bounciness of - really the whole song - just takes you along with it. But I really enjoy the punctuated hits! It's going to be stuck in my head in my dreams
@theawkwardsleep Feb 2022
i had to google cba. lol Great chord progression. the lyrics are just superb. the am i sleeping bit is so catchy. you always have a way with melody lines. they pull you in. I think its amazing that you put the word deoxyribonucleic in a song. Only you would do this and get it away with it so easily. :) Vocals are perfection. 255 bit is fun and groovy and really jangly indie rock vibes. love the harmonies that come in and get you moving. This would be so fun to dance to at a good show! someday youll come to Wisconsin right? -Ru
@shortdan Feb 2022
Firstly, I love the subject! I'm particularly digging the lyrics in this one actually. That chorus, now then, that's just extremely catchy now isn't it? The vocals are fantastic here too - gorgeous harmonies. I can see a band doing this. Is that a possibility with whatever you're doing now? Another proper good 'un.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
I assume you're just all over the MUSAK this fawm ;-) . Back to this. I love the simple but effective guitar intro and i think its based around a major 7th chord ya. the chorus reminds me of something really catchy from the 80s. CAn i have your permission to whack it on in my van on a lazy sunday morning and smile my way around all the bloody tourists clogging up my village
@fonte Feb 2022
Great pacing of the vocals. Very dreamy. Which is apt. Like the rhythm of the chorus, little stutter there. Very cool. Super super catchy. Well done!
@thelowestbitter Feb 2022
I was promised "Musak", please be more accurate with your genre tags. Really like the stop starty guitar at the beginning of each line in the chorus, makes it really punchy. Also kudos for getting deoxyribonucleic into a song and making it sound catchy
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
oh those interweaving guitars with the polyrhythms (?) are glorious. Those stabbing chords for the chorus are amazing as well, and it's a proper chorus hook with that final line. This a great laid back feel, I couldn't definately listen to this a few more times quite happily.
@jorh Feb 2022
Definitely didn't have to google 'deoxyribonucleic' - I should really have listened more in science class. Anyway you definitely won the prize for the most inventive rhyme this FAWM. The layered vocals sound super sweet, and enjoyed the instrumental breakdown/baahs before you brought the chorus back for one more spin.
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
This is so smooth. Like the droning verse guitars and the syncopated chorus chords. Dreamy chord voicings and the synths add nice ambiance paired with a strong vocal. Super work!
@atam94 Feb 2022
So good, and the synth line a little before the 3 minute mark is really cool, too. Loved the chorus "I wish you'd phone me in the evening, my horoscope says that you're leaving" part a lot
@skylermf Feb 2022
Deoxoribonucleic! I love that hook - I say I’m nothing without you cause that’s what lovers say. It conveys so much with so little. The synth lead in the bridge was fantastic too.
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Really strong songwriting with some lovely production flourishes to push it even higher - that stylophoney synth that comes in later on is so nice, and the way it morphs into the guitar solo is even nicer. Feel like this would work as a stripped down voice / guitar song too though, the hooks are really catchy and... erm... hooky
@beat Feb 2022
Beautiful
@hornesgiftshop Feb 2022
That's proper adult pop, that is. Hearing echoes of mid-80s midweek nights at Wolves Poly - Go-Betweens, Del Amitri etc..
@frenchcricket Feb 2022
I guess you could never get away with being a serial dream-cheat because you talk in your sleep. Kudos for rhyming something with deoxyribonucleic.
That chunky guitar sound is really nice, the whole thing sounds quite 80s emo or US alt. Or maybe a @balancelost influence creeping in? Anyway it's a sound I really really enjoy. The mix sounds really good. The halting stop-start guitars in the guitars really add a kind of poignancy to the lyric. Some of your best lyric writing here I think.
@ddd Feb 2022
Superb stuff. A radio ready, sunwashed anthem. He's done it again.
@jeustan Feb 2022
The entry of the second guitar/synth gave me goosebumps once, the backing vocal oooh's in the instrumental x2, and the lyrics are like goosebump jerky—something really nice to chew on. I love this.
edit: my very favorite use of the word 'sebum' in any song.
@guitarpatz83 Feb 2022
Such a beautiful, fragile dreamy track. Love the stops in the chorus. At times your vocal creeps into thom yorke territory.
deoxyribonucleic /Don’t leave me hanging with a double tick
Bravo to that lyrical wonder. Colour me impressed! Also loved “ My heart beats slowly in 12/8”.
And the synth that comes through strong late on is fantastic. There’s so much going on here - I’ll be listening a lot more to this and look forward to hearing what else you come up with
@judypie Feb 2022
Ok fine, I’ll let you off, this was worth the wait. Very bubbly at the start, you’re clicking your fingers along to it while I listen which seems a bit big headed but ok. Mmm dreamy vocal, I very much enjoy the tumbling down bits at the end of the chorus lines. And your angelic aahhhhs. And the ba ba bas of course.
@judypie Feb 2022
You cba to tinker anymore? Are you taking the piss?? Come to fucking bed!!
