Skirmish prompt: Symphony.
Things are not going well inside my head today.
a symphony of cacophony
rattles inside my brain
how did it happen
will it all happen again?
notes from left and right
discordant sounds of noise and blame
how did it happen
why do I feel unending shame?
I just can't let it go
all the instruments
playing out of synchronicity
how did it happen
is there any real hope for me?
I just can't let it go
I need to let it go
I just can't let it go

Nice chord choices. I like the big leaps down in the melody. The more discordant section contrasts nicely with the somber, more harmonious section. They both effectively express a sense of overwhelm, but in quite different ways.

Oof. I definitely relate to this one! Well done!

Haha, you know it's kind of fun working at the computer and being able to edit everything in a piano roll view, it's often led me to try something that seems problematic and then sort of force it to work by making accommodations in the context. Other times, I just scrap the whole thing.
I think it's characteristic of jazz to do things that at first appear or sound wrong. The funny thing is, it makes one (who's into jazz) listen to it again and again, until the ear gets used to it. But then it's lost its magic and one needs to find some other new instance of deviating from the conventions. Like the note and chord by Johnny Mandel in "The shadow of your SMILE" - a great moment in music.
Likewise here your choice of two conventionally unrelated chords is interesting and refreshing to my ear.

Liked this one, it has a lot of variety in it and you used the prompt well.

This is exquisite, really clever and poignant in equal measures. It should be on stage as part of a musical, it’s so evocative. Beautifully performed as well, love the lift on the penultimate ‘let it go’. Well done sir!

Great Job... :)
@musicsongwriter Feb 2022
Haha. This is really cool, very funny and lovely to listen to.
@pianoquest Feb 2022
Awesome use of chords to support the two contrasting moods in this song.
@hmstreetteam Feb 2022
I hear this as an attempt to replicate some of the musical changes of symphonic music using a single instrument. This works probably as well as it could. It fits the lyrics which might be seen as representing a situation that is probably too much going on for one person to handle.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Ha! That is a great phrase and love the marriage of music and lyrics… the chord progression and lilt is perfect and the change up between sections works really well! Wonderful take on the prompt!
@arthurrossi Feb 2022
Very smart, interesting and creative lyrics, nicely brought to life, particularly I guess this is the only song so far using the words "symphony" and "cacophony" at the same time. Awesome skirmishing!
@theodamus Feb 2022
Relatable… I really like how you play with time here, the contrast of the slow and sweet reinforces the chaotic swirling so nicely. Great skirmish!
@chroes Feb 2022
Ah, those dead chords hurt so bad! Love it!
No, but in ernest, this is a beautiful and fun piece, the breaks and harmonic shifts afterwards are especially noteworthy imho.
@mikehex Feb 2022
"symphony of cacophony" is a great phrase. I love the plaintive refrain, that knowledge that what you need to do is what you cannot do.
@aeye Feb 2022
Great chord choices for this. Almost has a very broadway like quality/feel to it.
@andygriff Feb 2022
I like the discordant madness of this! Pure creativity off the bat. Well done.
@robheron1 Feb 2022
More fuzz!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
clever use of the prompt done in metalfoot time of course. been a big week! good to rustle this out of the prompt
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
This seems like a tone poem. Hope that this helps you to process the tough day.
@tuneslayer Feb 2022
I've had days like that. In fact I'm not sure I'm not having one today.
