Why are all my songs depressing? Oh well! Enjoy!
When first I laid my eyes upon the Larkin child
I knew something special whirled within him, dark and wild
Though a simple lighthouse keeper, I knew beauty well
And the Larkin child reminded me so strongly of myself
And he was like a son to me
I never had none of my own family
From the top of my lighthouse I witnessed him grow
In the beautiful fields below
In the beautiful fields below
I'd catch glimpses of his mother in the morning dew
And the jealousy inside me only grew and grew
Some people live for riches, others live for god
But I lived for the ground on which the Larkin child trod
Yes he was like a son to me
Never had none of my own family
From the top of my lighthouse I witnessed his glow
In the beautiful fields below
In the beautiful fields below
Yes it was the Larkin child who would bring the post
A fortnight's worth of letters to my lonesome coast
He walked across the frozen bay towards my home
I was worried soon he'd marry and I'd be alone
For he was like a son to me
Never had none of my own family
From the top of my lighthouse I witnessed him go
To the beautiful fields below
To the beautiful fields below
It was on this night the Larkin child fell through ice
Saw him breaking through in the dying light
And I blame this spiral staircase and my rheumatoid
That those waters took my precious boy
He was like a son to me
Never had none of my own family
From the top of my lighthouse I witnessed him die
My beautiful Larkin child
My beautiful Larkin child

Lovely, dark, tragic, and actually a bit creepy (jealousy of the mother, worshipping the ground he walked on??), but also in the mode of all those wonderfully traditional story-telling songs. @bethkille should have given a spoiler alert, as I was reading the comments as I listened, and she gave away the ending before I got there ; ) Musically mesmerizing. Nice.

So epic and tragic. Those thick dark orchestral synths are so cinematic. Such interesting meter changes too, grabbed me by the ear.

Uughhh!! You had to kill him!! Whhyyyyy?!?! Gorgeous and tragic.

Epic indeed. The strings are well considered and add nicely to the drama. Good dynamic flow through the song.

This is amazing - atmospheric, dramatic, folky but expansive. Wonderful!

This is lovely, I mean, the lyric is quite the downer, but the music, the delivery and the production hits an absolute sweet spot. Really enjoyed it!
