Always been a closet fan of the shoegaze genre--My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, Catherine Wheel, etc., but my meager musical chops and country-ish vocal stylings never pointed me in that direction. Til now. Maybe...
Turn it up to 11.
Note:
Another version of this song in a completely different style is in progress with a non-FAWM collaborator musician. Just for fun, I wanted to do a kind of a spinoff based on that one.
Carly
Braided silver hair
Beads of abalone shells
Carly
Dancing everywhere
Sprinkling little spells
Carly
When you came I told my heart
Not to fall too fast
Oh, well
If loving is an art
We were a master class
Carly
My darling
Even prophets couldn’t know
How it all would end
Carly…so hard to see you go
The earth forgot to spin
The moon forgot to glow
Carly
We never said goodbye
Just let it slip away
Carly
The embers of the fire
All have gone to gray
Cold now
But every single night
Rising in my dreams
There’s an angel there with silver wings
Somewhere out to sea
A giant crystal bell
Cracks a little every time it rings
A cold reality
Bleeds in through the blinds
Morning
A cardinal in the snow
Brings you to my mind
Carly

I know squat about shoegaze but...Country Shoegaze!!!! It needs to be a thing! Why the heck not!!!

These lyrics are beautiful and heart wrenching. I love the repeat of 'Carly'. It makes it feel so very personal. I can't say which lines I like the best because there are too many of them. The 'cardinal' did choke me up a little though. I don't know what shoegaze is, but I like it. I love this song!

Thanks for your comments on my stuff Jeff.
This is great. Particularly loving the line "When you came I told my heart not to fall too fast. Oh, well" Awesome

My hats off to you, Jeff, for headng into a zone you don't normally venture into. I love the lyrics -- some terrific imagery, like the abalone shells and the cardinal in the snow. And you have definitely captured some of that shoegaze sound here.

Nice write: you've summoned the shoegaze vibe really well here.

Wow, Jeff, taking a bold leap away from the 'comfortable' on this one! Fantastic song!
The only thing I know about shoegaze is that the players tend to stare at their feet or stompboxes all the time!

I like how the key keeps modulating up. Lots of great lines in here The earth forgot to spin...The moon forgot to glow...Sprinkling little spells

Ooh I love the chord on the second "Carly!" I think the steady rhythm lets you appreciate the harmonic variation more. I also like your voice :)

I really like this, particularly some of the jazzier chord choices. I love shoegaze, and I can definitely feel its influence in this. I would say it's slower and less aggressive than typical shoegaze, which would put up more of an insistent wall of sound woven from multiple droning guitar lines. Really cool though.
