A bit of a weird one.. I wrote this at a Haiku workshop on Wednesday. ( Yes I know its not a Haiku I think we're working up to that!!!) It's not set to music.. its prompt was a photo. I might set it.. but had no mic... and I'm still sort of doing one or the other at the mo.. Weekend!!
Ok so yesterday (5th) I created this track - you can see the photo prompt added to figure at tge beginning of the video. This is the most ‘free’ way I’ve used figure up to now live- I’ve changed quite a few parameters throughout the track creating a kind of satisfyingly groovy ( I think) but yet disturbing sonic world with repetition and improvisation more equally matched. I’d love your comments.
Eyes of reflected light
Bright in the shadows
Monstrous - can't have this
Creature staring out
Popping its possible
Head over the
Chair-top.
Stop! When you see
Me - can't you stare
Quietly? Not to scare
the timid beings
hiding their night
terrors behind heavy
curtains.

What an interesting listen, that bowwow electronic bass is hypnotic here. The lyrics are the stuff of a psychological horror movie. Dark and paranoiac. I can't help thinking you had a blast making this piece.

The "making-of video" was interesting. I kind of know that people make music with their smart phones and iPads but haven't really seen it in real time before. Music was great. Especially the melodic variations. It starts fairly normal and then gets nervous which was nice. I didn't mind the repetitions now that Fawm is over. :)

Lots of cool stuff going on here. It’s musical art :)

Not a haiku... but those synths are doing some properly odd things with time signatures. Is there something haiku-ish in the beat?
I'm going to say there is ;)
I love the whole twisty-swirlyness of it. It quite transports me head somewhere else

Wow this is really neat! Love the video. Great beat and lots of cool sounds. I really like the lyrics even though they are not in the song. Can’t you stare quietly - what a great line.

I like how the different elements gradually come in, introducing some atonality at times. I like the percussion in particular, as well as the delays on the synths.

This is super cool! I love the process video, it adds a whole other dimension. That groove is really fun and just odd enough to keep my ears on their toes. And the haiku-adjacent lyrics... is it a cat?
I think it's a cat. Maybe a ghost-cat?
I hope it's a ghost-cat.

wow cyber frog chorus vibe, makes me wonder what that was made on - good

Whoa -- some kinda retro-futuristic jazz going on here, super cool. This is what high-society people listen to in the Star Wars universe.

Interesting to get a little sense about how you make music like this. The video is helpful in that regard.

I see what you mean about the photo (!) Intriguing to watch the real-time fiddling. I work from a keyboard and midi controller leading into a synth, twiddlign the synth (that's my track #1 which is largely improvised). Yes, the groove is there but it is indeed disturbing. In a groovy kind of way. but then so much synth work is, there must be visceral button somewhere it keeps brushing.

Now that's a challenge, the multiple interpretations possible here (not the not-Haiku, I've used Haiku to pare purple prose down to its basics and then build lyrics. ) The imagery is ...well..imaginimagery? depends on the listener. I have an immediate response to a train waking me with its headlight in the middle of nowhere and I've been asleep on its track...
