One More Mile
By Gary Ray Knowland
Its been a long long journey,
I've had my share of worries
When I turn and look back now,
I don't regret a thing somehow
When I was young I rode the train
Empty boxcars, my domain
Not a single thing to show
And only one more mile to go.
CHORUS
only one more mile to go
I've braved the wind the rain the snow
I've got the scars and they sure show
And only one more mile to go.
There's only one more mile to go.
BREAK
BRIDGE
All the years speed swiftly by
And so much still left to try
All the years speed swiftly by
I can hear the angel cry.
When I was young I rode the train,
Empty boxcars, my domain
Not a single thing to show
And only one more mile to go.
only one more mile to go
I've braved the wind the rain the snow
I've got the scars and they sure show
And only one more mile to go.
There's only one more mile to go.
All the years speed swiftly by
theres so much still left to try
All the years speed swiftly by
I can hear the angel cry.
Now that I'm old I love to dream
And ride around on a sunbeam
It looks like hellfire down below
Then there's one more mile to go
There's only one more mile to go

The title reminds me of walking the pennine way this summer. Like the production it feels really tight snd professional. Like the second harmony really lifts the song. Like the insistent bass.

Real cool insistent song that drives home the story in the lyrics. Both sides match so well. The banjo holding down the base but the tasty guitar fills were such a joy. Really well done! Question… was it written this week? The melody really kind of fits the one note melody weekly challenge. One note holding the bulk of it and it works so well. Nice!!

In my mind, I can hear Merle Haggard pickin' and grinnin' on this one.

No regrets is the way to be!! Superb energy. "Only one more mile to go..." Brilliant! Love the flow and how the dream is still there, that there's so much still left to try, bringing hope. Excellent wirte!!! And damn... us old people... we can all relate!!!

I agree with @fiteclub about the Due South vibe. And that's a super good thing... I can't let "in Hell they'll be in good company" song go by without clicking play! This one has that about it! These lyrics have a drive to them and in the way you sing them, that is compelling. I'm in the miles to go category myself, (hopefully more than one'll) so, this does really resonate with me. And I loved the instruments you chose, that intro had me at hello. Great song!!

Go listen to "In Hell I'll Be in Good Company" by Due South and tell me you don't get a vibe similar to this fun song. Well done, you.

This makes me want to get up and two-step! Your singing and playing is contagious. I love the repeating refrain to hold it together. Strong visuals in the lyrics too. Nice job!

What John Staples said....LOL!! What a great write and production and way too relatable of those of us of a certain age!! I love this melody, very catchy and what a great, strong vocal on this. Love it and am so happy to have you at FAWM!!!

Good beat and I like the line “Empty boxcars my domain”

Aww hell yeah! I love, Love, LOVE this Gary! The overall vibe is right up my alley! Such a sweet train pumping beat that reinforces the theme quite well! And I sure can relate to that theme! Being young and adventurous...then the years fly by...then, here we are! I love that hook so much...One More Mile is just awesome!
I thoroughly enjoyed this song and I'm delighted you're writing new stuff! You are a damn fine writer and performer and I'd love to hear more!!!
