Feb 2022 girl-with-daw non-english ballad fawmtronica electronic electropop slow no-excuses
I normally avoid singing in German like the plague. (Having a comparison now, I can say that with confidence.) I always have to think of Schlager music, which I totally not enjoy.
But I wanted to try it this FAWM, and here it is. Also tried out a stereo microphone.
(translation below)
[verse 1]
Konzentrische Kreise
Wind weht leise und das
Wasser,
so eisig,
es raubt mir die Luft
Scherben fliegen
fallen, liegen und das
Wasser,
so eisig,
ein Meer aus Glas
[chorus]
Deine Liebe
befreit nicht
deine Augen
Salz und Blei
und deine Lippen
sie flüstern
es war nie genug
Deine Liebe
befreit nicht
dein Herz
Blut und Stein
und deine Stimme,
so eisig, singt
es war nie genug
[verse 2]
Worte schneiden
Die Stille, in beiden unseren
Herzen
Ein zögern
Ein Warten auf mehr
Träume verwehen
Unser sehnen nach der
Liebe
Des anderen
Es hat nicht gereicht
[chorus]
Deine Liebe
befreit nicht
deine Augen
Salz und Blei
und deine Lippen
sie flüstern
es war nie genug
Deine Liebe
befreit nicht
dein Herz
Blut und Stein
und deine Stimme,
so eisig, singt
es war nie genug
[bridge]
Warten auf
Ein Wunder
Auf ein Ende
Auf ein Wort
Und während du nur noch
Wartest
Bin ich schon lange
Fort
[chorus]
Deine Liebe
befreit nicht
deine Augen
Salz und Blei
und deine Lippen
sie flüstern
es war nie genug
Deine Liebe
befreit nicht
dein Herz
Blut und Stein
und deine Stimme,
so eisig, singt
es war nie genug
nie genug
~~~
[verse 1]
Concentric circles
Wind blows softly and the
water,
so icy,
takes my breath away
Shards fly
fall, lie and the
water,
so icy,
a sea of glass
[chorus]
Your love
sets not free
your eyes
salt and lead
and your lips
they whisper
it was never enough
your love
sets not free
your heart
blood and stone
and your voice
so icy, sings
it was never enough
[verse 2]
Cutting words
The silence, in both our
Hearts
A hesitation
A waiting for more
Dreams blow away
Our longing for
Love
Of the other
It wasn't enough
[chorus]
Your love
sets not free
your eyes
salt and lead
and your lips
they whisper
it was never enough
your love
sets not free
your heart
blood and stone
and your voice
so icy, sings
it was never enough
[bridge]
Waiting for
A miracle
For an end
For a word
And while you just
Wait
I'll be long
Gone
[chorus]
Your love
sets not free
your eyes
salt and lead
and your lips
they whisper
it was never enough
your love
sets not free
your heart
blood and stone
and your voice
so icy, sings
it was never enough
never enough
Die erste Wörter erinnern mich an dem Gedicht von Rilke: ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen. Ich finde deine Singen ganz toll. Vielleicht nächstes Jahr machst Du einen ganzen Album von deutsch-gesungene Lieder.
Utterly mesmerizing! I may not understand the German words, but that doesn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying this compelling melody and performance. Love your voice. You have such a beautiful clear tone. Wow! A very professional sounding song. Had to listen twice. Also love the vivid lyrics.
@heliosonorous Feb 2022
Really great sounds, very lyrical poetic feel to it, great job!
@headfirstonly Feb 2022
Singing in German gives a song a gravitas and seriousness that I don't ever seem to hear in English-language songs. Maybe that's because it's not my native language. But it's also perfectly suited to the melancholy of this piece (which I guess makes it a Schlager song? In the UK we'd just call it a pop song, I think.)
Wistful, sad, and rather lovely.
@intoyourlight Feb 2022
Ohhhh das ist super schön! Ich weiß was du meinst, ich vermeide es auch wie die Pest, wenn es nicht klassischer Gesang ist :D obwohl ich mit 15 totaler Fan war von L‘Ame Immortelle. Das hier erinnert mich total daran, auf eine wunderbare Art und Weise.
Jetzt hast du mich inspiriert vielleicht auch etwas auf Deutsch zu texten :) deine Stimme klingt übrigens sehr sehr schön!
@elesimo Feb 2022
So lovely! I don't understand a word, but I loved it. The sparse production and the mesmerizing vocals are so good!
@twyllodrus Feb 2022
Du solltest mehr auf deutsch machen. Das ist sehr atmosphärisch und kein bißchen schlagermäßig.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Wow, this is great on so many levels. I do speak German (better at hearing than writing!) and I love the German lyrics. I tried not to read the translation, and this is so poetic.
Your voice is amazing, and I love the product concept. Would recommend highly!
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
This is beautiful - so gentle and lilting.
@arthurrossi Feb 2022
Sehr gut gestaltete und ausdrucksvolle Lyrics, ich mag die Assoziationen, die Du bereits am Anfang mit dem eiskalten Wasser und dem Ringen nach Luft hervorrufst. Der Refrain ist phänomenal, und Deine Stimme klingt wunderschön. Ich bin froh, dass Du für dieses Lied die deutsche Sprache gewählt hast...
@jackdawfactories Feb 2022
OH but this rules. I'm a sucker for a beautiful synth arpeggio and a gentle voice. This flows in a way I would love to be able to replicate. I also really chuckled at the #girl-with-daw tag, a nice little easter egg :)
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Thanks for the translation. I was already overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the song without understanding the lyrics. With the translation I get the sadness too.
@arkka Feb 2022
Sehr gut! (that's about as far as my German goes.) I like the melody a lot. Lots of almost sighing-like descending lines and your vocal performance really brings out that delicate sadness. Your voice sounds great!
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
Your voice is really beautiful. I appreciate it when translations are included, I love listening to the sound of languages I don't really understand. Like I can hear the feeling behind the words better that way? The cold loneliness of the lyrics, the unloving love, is reflected in the music, the frantic synth like flurries of snow. I like how the arrangement is sparse but builds up a bit towards the end.
@cblack Feb 2022
This sounded great!
@waltermosch Feb 2022
Klingt sehr schön. Und klingt absolut nicht nach Schlager:) Die melancholische Stimmung ist genau mein Ding. Sehr hübsch.
@nadine Feb 2022
Oh da haben wir etwas gemeinsam. Ich tue noch sehr schwer mit deutschen Texten, auf Englisch fließt es nur aus der Hand. Schöne Bilder und feine Stimme klingt auf deutsch sehr angenehm. Das hat echt nichts mit Schlager und Kitsch zu tun.
@xjs Feb 2022
I like how the lyrics are broken in an unconventional way, it gives a lot of suspense. Also they're really confidently delivered, they hit the right balance of neither too little nor too much (where too much could easily have ruined the mood). Your intonation is really good, especially given how exposed the voice is in the mix. :)
@torsten Feb 2022
Na sehr cooler track. Da könnten sich manche SchlagersängerInnen ne Scheibe von abschneiden. Der Chorus ist toll, vor allem die Melodie auf "befreit" klingt toll, so gerät die Message an der Stelle voll in den Fokus. Jo auch überhaupt cool gesungen.
@stephubik Feb 2022
Hey, schön Dich singen zu hören! Ich mag den fragilen Aufbau, wie es die ganze Zeit kurz davor ist, richtig richtig richtig loszugehen... dann aber doch nicht, was gut ist. Und dann: Diese Leere, Stille... whoa. Leere ist manchmal mehr als tausend Instrumente!
(gerne mehr davon, von Schlager bist Du meilenweit entfernt...! ;))
@ryuu Feb 2022
Wow, ... this is awesome. Haunting and effective in its unpretentious delivery. (I'm in the same boat re: having a hard time making lyrics in German.)
@aeye Feb 2022
Despite you saying you avoid it like the plauge, I think you should do it more. This sounds really great. The vocals are nice and upfront, but also not over powering the rest of the elements. You've got a really nice voice. I thought it was also a smart choice to keep this sparse in terms of arrangement. It really lets the vocals take a prominent place.
