Feb 2022 avatarchallenge experimental senior rocker
I think this is hilarious.
My avatar was identified as a proper Gibson Les Paul Standard by @headfirstonly.
When I was in my 30’s/40’s and chaperoning high school dances, I would use ear plugs to walk through the gym. Now here am I in my 70’s making that same kind of music. What a wonderful life!
I have worked at this track all week off and on, mostly trying to find out what a proper Gibson Les Paul Standard really sounds like, and then trying to make something on my iPad and Akai LPK25 USB midi keyboard that my husband presented to me at CHristmas. (I have never played a piano) January saw me trying to make sounds on GarageBand, and thank you to fellow FAWMERS for helping me to get songs off GarageBand onto an iPad,
So here is my Avatar challenge, When Ms. Fender Mandolin Meets Mr. Gibson Les Paul Standard.
When Ms. Fender Mandolin meets Mr. Gibson Les Paul Standard
Welcome to our first jam
Welcome to one and all
Find a place, dont hesitate
Make yourself comfortable.
She made her way through the crowd,
Her pathway barely focused
Finding just that perfect spot
Blending in without notice.
The house lights slowly faded
Then a periwinkle glow
Shone around sculpted features
Somewhat like a staged tableau.
He was leaning on a wall
She could not look away
His satisfied expression
Commanding all attention,
she was afraid.
The place was jam packed, people everywhere
The place was electric, she felt unprepared.
Intensity building, The room was rocking.
She thought to turn and run, destiny was calling
She knew it could be dangerous
He was much more than handsome
As She admired his silhouette
Didnt think much of her chances
Sturdy and inexpensive
Folks said she was versatile
They didnt expect too much
Made her feel less than worthwhile
.
But her set up was superb
All eyes were focused on her
all or nothing, original sin
And she played him, just like a mandolin
When the flashing lights glistened
Off his shiny chrome hardware
The sight of it made her weak
Her mind went blank, she couldn't speak
All eyes were on the guitar
as the deep base notes sounded
Then she stood up and from her
The sweetest notes surrounded
The place was jam packed, people everywhere
The place was electric, she let down her hair
The place was rocking,no longer a bystander
The night Ms. Fender Mando met Mr. Gibson Les Paul Standard.

I like the 60s kind of vibe...lyrics are really cool. Great work with Garageband. I really like the mandolin solo... #tit4tat (returning)
@wylddandelyon Mar 2022
I like this one. A fun story, starring musical instruments. I like the story and the way you put it together, with lovely musical references scattered through it.

This sounds great and I love the concept. The random avatars this year were sometimes perfect, sometimes funny and sometimes confounding. The mandolin break near the end works really well over the heavy backing. "And she played him just like a mandolin" :D #tit4tat
@nahlej381 Mar 2022
Very cool tune! This sounds like a song a band could be playing at the high school dance in the 3rd act of an 80s slasher or teen movie. I can see the brat pack walking about the gym. You’re putting that lpk mini to work! And there’s the mandolin very cool!
@driftwood1 Mar 2022
This rocks! I dig the 60s psychedelic vibe. The Mando solo was a nice surprise.
@wolfkier Mar 2022
ha! well here's a change in pace. All this FAWMing is wearing off on you. LOL. "She was afraid" "just like a mandolin" made me laugh too, and that solo, to die for! Great stuff.
Wait till she meets Mr Les Paul Cusom~ ! :)
#tit4tat2.

oh sounds a bit white rabbit! how the cycle turns around eh! this is really well done in every way! right outside you normal zone - bravo well played!
@andygetch Feb 2022
Oh a fab story, fun sounds, and thanks for taking the challenge!
@robheron1 Feb 2022
Funny kid you! Love the mando solo! More mando solos!
@chipwithrow Feb 2022
That's a great, ominous guitar sound you get! And the personification in the lyrics is so fun - great vocalizing, too. Nifty mandolin break. An unexpected treat from you!
@quork Feb 2022
Rock and roll!!! I’m loving how you’ve gone well beyond your usual mando and vocal style. It has a Jefferson Airplane feel. Really sounds great. Is that you playing the mando break?Because it sounds good and fits perfectly. Great lyrics. Keep pushing those boundaries!
@nadine Feb 2022
Oh yes you're growing musically. Your vocals reminds me a bit of Anne Clark. Adding a mandolin solo to the fuzz is so cool!
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
This absolutely rocks and that mando solo shreds! The story is so cute, clever and well-told. I love everything about this <3
@tunecat Feb 2022
Rock fused with flamenco ( the chord sequence). Like the stops. Like the tension. I’m hearing on the train so missing another of the guitar action but it sounds pretty cool. Great challenge
@rangermike Feb 2022
Fender and Gibson, what a smokin duo. Loved the instrumental as well - great story line too.
@roddy Feb 2022
Rocking and very dramatic. A great story with very clever lyrics.
@robheron1 Feb 2022
Hey! I know you...from banjo camp! Soon as I heard this song and your voice! Hope to see you this year. Mando solo sounds great too!
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
What a way to ROCK the profile pic challenge, Linda!! That creative spirit! Nice job!
@crutherford Feb 2022
Oh Linda I love your brain. This was totally unexpected and as you know I adore the unexpected. I absolutely loved the trip you took me on!!! and that mando solo!! Bravo my friend! Bravo!!!!
@tseaver Feb 2022
Fun write! The characterization of the two instruments as teenagers at a dance is brilliant.
@elesimo Feb 2022
Oh, wow! What a great take on the avatar challenge!
I love how the tension builds up with that bass line and the lyrics working together. Love the solo at the end, and the last line is just perfect, with that "ha!". So good!
