For you I draw the Ten of Swords. The image shows a very unhappy egg-person in who was, presumably, sitting on a brick fence, but who now is falling headlong toward jagged rocks on the ground. He has a stylish bow tie and quite flimsy arms and legs. We don’t need the ten swords to indicate there’s impending disaster. Or perhaps the swords are supposed to represent all the king’s horses and all the king’s men, who, if they arrive at all, will arrive far too late to do anything constructive. But really, what was an egg doing sitting on a wall in the first place? It reminds me of the kids song that goes, If a rock falls on an egg, too bad, too bad, for the egg. If an egg falls on a rock, too bad for the egg.

[INTRO](Instrumental)
[VERSE 1]I seem doomed
Its been presumed
whichever way
you dice it; slice it; calibrate it; sway
I’m in a catch 22 bit;
Damned if I do
Damned if I don’t
everything keeps
coming at me
Like it ain’t no joke
Coming at me from
EVERY whichaway
Just like now
I'm left dangling
here in mid-air
What the hell is
keeping me afloat?
I don't want to wind up
splat on the floor with no hope
[CHORUS]Damned if I do
Damned if I don’t
I’m so prone
to becoming broke
Falling off the wall
It's only a
matter of time
At this interval
it's no fairytale rhyme.
[VERSE 2]This must be
some sort of
hell that I'm in
After re-thinking everything
I'll accept my fate
I've played it
from every which angle
from every which way
I'm going to
broken in pieces
as I hit the ground
I'm putting
my faith
In Father God up Above
The Creator of all there is was and ever will be;
of the inner workings unseen
& in aka real love
I’m willing to be purged;
to become clean
There are some things
I re-thunk
one
becoming detached;
of all
that’s dispatched
from the whole
bottle of wax
did I pay my tax?
I've finally come
to accept that
I can’t fix
everything
I have to rely
on help
from the king
[CHORUS]Damned if I do
Damned if I don’t
I’m so prone
to becoming broke
Falling off the wall
It's only a
matter of time
At this interval
it's no fairytale rhyme.
[VERSE 3]I’m thinking to send
a letter to the King
taking the initiative
For what his posse
should bring
to put me back
together
from the pieces
I'll be in
after I
hit the
deadly jagged rocks
that are waiting
on down below;
Where I go Kaplat!
[CHORUS]Damned if I do
Damned if I don’t
I’m so prone
to becoming broke
Falling off the wall
It's only a
matter of time
At this interval
it's no fairytale rhyme.
[VERSE 4]My hope is
that i’m still
suspended mid-air
somewhat frozen like
as if in
a magic land
In this moment
In this place
In this time
I know it isn’t just
me, myself & I
There is something
Greater than that
so marvelously intricate
as a matter of fact
From behind the sky
to the foreground &
everywhere in-between
Trusting the universe
to intervene
[BRIDGE]Maybe if
I become as strong
as the rocks below?
I can brace myself
for the impact
The stones being
mightier than me
them being able to
cut me into three
I’ll be giving myself
a better chance
embracing the impact
[CHORUS]Damned if I do
Damned if I don’t
I’m so prone
to becoming broke
Falling off the wall
It's only a
matter of time
At this interval
it's no fairytale rhyme.
[VERSE 5]Will the Universe
orchestrate itself
into lending
me a hand
helping me out of this
bloody predicament
I've gotten myself in
All of a sudden
a pigeon
landed on me
The pigeon said
he’ll take my letter
to the King;
I'm Asking the King to tell
All his Kings horses
& All the Kings Knights
When they come to rescue me
The'll need to bring
Duct Tape in hand
It fixes so much
It can fix three

I enjoyed this take on the challenge. Great idea with fun but though provoking lyrics. Nice job #tit4tar

Nice answer to the challenge. I really like the hooky chorus, and the fairytale tie in with facing everyday life. I also loved the duct tape, it's been a thing in my family for decades, making everything from roses to wallets to costumes, and even used to repair things, though never a person sized egg, that I can recall. :)

Nice edit! With fairy tale rhyme… super
@gilhari Feb 2022
I like the conceit of the bridge and final chorus… the proposed idea that the subject could be stronger than the rocks below. Either way, the overall conceit of resiliency through determination are great and work well with the structure of the lines. I love the liner notes…

Fascinating, whimsical, creative. The sentiment of suspending everything in time before disaster is powerful stuff. Like the Grecian Urn. Never facing the shattering at the end of the road.
@sheslin Feb 2022
Love the Humpty Dumpty tie in and the general theme of your song. I so relate to the damned if I do, damned if I, and of course finally accepting that you can’t fix everything. Love the duct tape tie in also. I use it a lot and it kinda tides you over but does not always fix something. I bet these lyrics were cathartic to write.
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
Your lyrics are very creative and relatable. I know the feeling of damned if you do, damned if you don't all too well--I think that is a catchy hook many listeners will relate to!!

These are dope dude! Also Humpty Dumpty tarot card!? My mind is blown rn. The chorus is super hooky and awesome. Good to see ya back!
