This song is a continuation from "I Love You in My Head". It's about the heartbreak of unrequited love due to the object of one's desire already being in a relationship.
I wrote the lyrics with the help of my Wild at Heart mentor Yannick Rosette (who I'm currently trying to get to sign up for FAWM). I came up with the music.
I have nothing to start with, but I’ll do my best
To let you know how I really feel
There’s something building inside my chest
And I know this love is real
Pretty girl, you’re on my mind
You are my heart’s desire
I wish you could read my signs
Like raining fire, like raining fire
We could reach peaks so high
And build our very own haven
Live like we own the sky
But you’re taken
I’d go to the end of the world with you
Pouring my heart out, should I even try?
But if you’ve got to be with them
I guess this means goodbye
Why can’t we play today?
Why can’t things stay that way?
The signals fire only from one side
But the obstacle is your other love
Holding on so long is emotional suicide
Heartbreak is what I’ve had too much of
When these feelings aren’t reciprocating
Why must I waste time ruminating?
Head in my hands, I’m deliberating
Not even together and we’re separating
I love you
But you’re taken

suitably sombre and full of the kind of pathos required for a personal song of longing and loss. The but your taken really closes the door, so it's a real tag/show stopper.
The bridge pulls at the heartstrings.
Tit4tat (numberiforget) I've one more revisit from yesterday for you next.

I like the melody and the arrangement, I could imagine myself sitting in a smoky bar and having some drinks with my special one while that song is playing in the background... Very nice lyrics and your vocal delivery suits the whole atmosphere beautifully... Great work!

A good lyric, kudos both.. The simple progressions allow the heartbreak melody and lyrics to dominate as they should. There's potential here. (Kudos also for the one shot!)

Gorgeous piano, plaintive vocals both show the painful lyrics. Well done!

Really heartfelt lyrics and delivery, I like the choice to keep it pared down and calm in the piano part to allow the lyrics to really shine and the listener to connect with the storytelling. The bridge with the repeated "why..." stands out, it's directly from the root of the feeling. Nice work!
