Feb 2022 pop folky murder ballad
It started out sweetly then... you know
We started out early, the sun was still shining
And as I recall you were nervous bout something
We parked by the lake at the edge of town
We were talking and laughing, with no cares in the world
And the children were playing, skipping stones on the lake
As the evening came down, it was all looking great
Then you looked to the distance, said we really must talk
I was frozen in time, just like a second hand clock
And you started to tell me, you said something was wrong
I didn’t really understand, but I played along
By the time you were finished I was struggling for words
I couldn’t understand I thought that we were so strong
You said it’s not you, it’s me, I hope you’re able to see
Though I tried to understand, I didn’t really agree
So I stammered and stuttered and went down on one knee
I didn’t really expect that you would turn around and laugh at me
And then you told me some home truths about what you endured
You turned angry and mean, and so self-assured
I could see that you meant it, you would not concede
So I took the axe and watched you bleed
Down by the lake

Wow, what lovely, dark, story-telling lyrics these are with so many beautiful details and imagery. The melody is gorgeous and your vocal delivery is so pleasant to listen to. Awesome work here!

The tune of this is nice to listen to! The story is a bit dark - as warned in the title. :)
