well it was running through my head i can't remember what you said
but i remember how i felt
jokers to the left, i'm living up to the expectations
of a king with a cardboard crown
we were just fighting for the higher ground
trying to keep ourselves from bringing each other down
trying to keep both feet on a one way street
leading to the edge of town
I was a million miles away when you said life is like a train
you can't just pick up and turn it around
you've got a million miles of track and now you're synching up your tachymeter
trying to beat the speed of sound
you were just speeding towards that higher ground
trying to outrun the crashing down
running off a cliff, but you can keep it going if
you just keep from looking down.
stacking up the firewood to keep the engine turning
could you wait for me at the finish line?
you were just speeding towards that higher ground
trying to outrun the crashing down
running off a cliff, but you can keep it going if
you just keep from looking down.

Little bits of Elvis C. pepper this tune... both in lyric and vox... oh, that I could pull that shit off as deftly as you, brother! Well damn done.

Really digging the Costello style structure and delivery. Both guitars and vocal are right there. Would love to hear a fully produced version of this track. Strong songwriting. Great stuff

I love the start/stop energy of the verses agasint the more "chorus" flowing sections. The whole song has a real drive to it.

Nice write: great energy and dynamics capture the angst of the lyric well, and running off the edge is perfect.
