FAWM Song number two: Most everyone knows Rod Stewart's Maggie Mae, but this could be a prequel. I'll promise to wake you gently - just don't kick me in the head! I'm not promising a concept album by any means, but this one builds on FAWM One (Tacky Charm) by imagining the protagonist has pulled in off the highway to a quiet, dark bar.
JUST BE MY MAGGIE MAE
c. 2022 raspberry33
Verse 1:
Things happen for many reasons
when the season is right
Though the vessel appears half empty
this could be our night
Call it kismet or call it karma
who cares if anyone knows
I’m grateful for every favor
that brought us oh, so close
CHORUS:
Just be …Be my Maggie Mae Give me a kiss
Be my Maggie Mae and I’ll wake you gently!
Verse 2
Maybe this will work, and maybe it won’t
Is now the time to question why?
As answers diminish to whispers
Let’s make time for a contented sigh...
Instrumental verse
>CHORUS
Bridge:
Role reversal an obvious twist
But I’m happy wherever love can exist
In a world where differences
Don’t have to get in the way
Verse 3:
You know, things happen for whatever reason
Spring meets summer for an awesome season
Maybe it will work out
And, you know, maybe it won’t….
Chorus:
So just be Be my Maggie Mae
Give me a kiss
Be my Maggie Mae And I promise to wake you gently
Just be my Maggie Mae Wake up and give me a kiss
Be my Maggie Mae On the abysss between survival and delight

This has got a great vibe to it. It feels like it has one foot planted in the '70s and one in the early '80s, which for me is a dream combo. Fantastic job on the arrangement, it's nice and sparse without feeling like something's missing.

Wow, this rhodes is so juicy. The arrangement of this song is insane. Well-appreciated. Honestly. Made my day when I listened to it on the FAWMtalk. I lift my hat.

i like this 'how they met' prequel to the classic songs. imagining ths naive summer boy transforming into rod stewarts character in se tembers wake up call shows you what a girl can do to a guy

riff and hook straight out of the gate, I clicked to see if it was gonna be a 12 string approximation of Rod's original.. it's far better, bit Jeff Tweedy (probably the same part of the US?).. I like it so much - I'm going to click 'watch'

Nice one! A great blend of lyric, music and arrangement. I like the shout out to the old song. Great slow tempo is an effective choice too.

Slinky and sexy! I like that groove. It’s really soulful. Honestly I’m trying to pull up the words to Maggie Mae in my mind. I think that’s a clever way to write. Referencing a song in song. I like that.
