Feb 2022 folk acoustic singer-songwriter
A fast one snuck in before bed. I've been reading poetry and ballads and this song is for some folks in my imagination formed from some of that.
I can't feel the things you feel
And I will never come to understand
If I truly ever cared then
I would've noticed back when it began
It's too late, now, it's all over
We will never be any closer
I can't be the man you need
As both of us has come to realize
After all the pain we've seen
All the heartbreak comes as no surprise
It's too late, now, it's all over
We will never be any closer
After all the things we've said
the separate lives that we both led
I never though it'd end any other way
It's too late, now, it's all over
We will never be any closer

A real sensitivity in your vocal delivery. It feels like you are singing it to one you are trying to hold onto love for despite your struggles.

I really like the pause in between each two lines of the verse, as it allows the words’ meaning to sink in. Your melody is so nice and relaxed—very patient and the song is definitely better off because of it. Love the melody, which is very pretty for such a sentiment! Well done!

This is great. A bitter sweet lyric that is delivered beautifully. Super guitar tone and playing. Absolute cracker.

I've been away for some time, and it's interesting to see how you've evolved lyrically, not just in phrasing but becoming less of a narrator and more of a character in your stories.
And still the smoothest guitar around, of course.
@heliosonorous Feb 2022
Well captured emotions in this one.

This is a fine piece of "Americana" - love the little guitar breaks. I need to work on those!
Some nice lines. Especially this couplet:
"After all the pain we've seen
All the heartbreak comes as no surprise"

Real nice track, played and sung well. Strong melody and as always you spice it up on the guitar with some nice bits.
@jtsteam Feb 2022
This is a beautiful break up song (if that's even a good adjective for such a thing...). The story of someone who just realises what's going on and the guitar complements the story perfectly.

Hello. It's Mr. McGaughey. I listened with Mr. N.'s Grade 34 class. Here are their comments.
M: I like it because your voice was good and I like how you play the guitar.
A: I like it because it makes me feel nice and that actually really made my day better.
S: The guitar sounded really nice.
E: The lyrics were pretty good.
A: It is calming, and I like it.
Mr. McG. That is so lonely and so sad, and so relateable.
P: I really love it because it is nice and calming and it's not too loud.
S. It liked it because it expresses feelings.

I'm gonna agree with the other commenters here. I love that last line. It's such a great way to end the song.

I like that Chorus. I see this song as the beginning of the end. When one finally realizes what friends and family have realized long before. Great song!!
@the3queens Feb 2022
"We will never be any closer", so matter of fact. I love this line. Sort of a resigned break up song. This would've been a great morph challenge opener because you could use that same line as the beginning of a relationship . Nice write!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Dont you love liner notes! makes you almost feel part of it! Really well written and done has a nice softness about it!.
@andygetch Feb 2022
Well sung and played and without the liner notes I never would have guessed. Glad that literature class is providing inspiration! Maybe I need to start re-reading poetry books?
@blainev83 Feb 2022
Nice pickin! This is a great little break up number. I can picture staring out the window and ugly crying to it. (I mean that as a compliment). Nice work!
@sumnersloane Feb 2022
This is right up my alley. You call it folk, but I'm feeling some old school country
@valeriecox Feb 2022
Love that guitar, as always. You play so well. Lyrics are just Matter of fact, aren’t they. Sometimes that’s just it, isn’t it?
@tseaver Feb 2022
Nice write: captures the characterization perfectly, and sets it in a charming tune.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Another TC break up song! It's great playing, and the lyrics are tight. Good for a "before bed" write!
@skylermf Feb 2022
I love a good happy melody/sad lyric combo. You’re able to capture so much in just these three short verses! Great hook too
