Feb 2022 punk pop-punk children guitar-solo
Das Binky: I like Liz's writing. A lot of the time I can just read the lyrics and they fit right into a structure in my head. I read these, and I didn't hear a kids' tune. I heard a punk tune. Not that those are mutually exclusive. Kids love punk. Raffi's fine and all, but The Ramones are a better kids band. ('Beat on the Brat' notwithstanding.)
I treated this basically like a skirmish. Musically, it's 1:20, 260 BPM, and has three guitar solos. So, ya know, subtle. Breaking a lot of musical ground. Anyway, this was a fun 45 minute project. :D
Liz: So I write a simple lyric for a sweet silly children’s song and then John comes along with his brilliant musical mind and creativity and this fabulous punky pop song comes alive! Love that guitar, the driving beat and awesome vocals! I understand that there may be a few other lovely versions are coming from other awesome FAWM friends ( Berni, Darci) - but I don’t think any will be the same as this! Thanks John for you magic and music!
I love John’s music and love the magic of FAWM collaborations!!!

V1
there’s one goose in the grass
two ducks on the deck
three rabbits in the roses
four fish sitting on the fence
what?
no!
that doesn’t make sense
there’s no fish there
no fish on the fence
V2
there are five bees in the bush
six toads in the trees
seven raccoons in the rubbish
eight bears flying in the breeze
what?
no!
I have never seen these
there’s no bears there
no bears in the breeze
V3
there are nine dogs in the dirt
ten snails in the sand
eleven horses in the hay
twelve pigs wearing purple pants
what?
no!
nobody has seen that
there’s no pigs there
no pigs in purple pants

Just awesome! Children definitely need to listen to more punk songs. I have now listened to 3 different interpretations of this cute rhyme, and they are very different, but also very similar. Delightful.
@siebass Mar 2022
Wow. That's pretty much what I have to say here. The production is on point, guitars sound amazing, bass is sitting perfect, and the multiple voices on the WHAT, NO parts are perfect. So many solos. It's clear someone had a lot of fun making this.
Lyrically, great build up to the surprise of fish sitting on the fence. I have an almost-5-year old son and he'd love this listing of things up to the nonsensical. Kids love absurdist humor, it's fact. Great job here
@jamkar Mar 2022
What Das Binky AND Liz? Yes!
Mind blown. Senses reeling!
@sherrycanary Mar 2022
You two need to put a kid's punk album together.
Lyrics are so clever and John's music and delivery so perfect.
Outrageous solo
@lindarling Feb 2022
What? Did I just listen to? And how awesome was it? My kids will love it. You're a genius. Or just crazy. Or a crazy genius. What?
@tfish77 Feb 2022
If I hadn't read the lyrics, I would have assumed this was an angry political song. Now that I've read the lyrics, I love this. Short, sweet (well, "sweet") and punk as hell. Really fun!
@janeg Feb 2022
Almost every kid will sing a long and beg for this song to be played every time. No bigger compliment.
@feb21sundari Feb 2022
This is also a great version of kahlos song. I love the first guitar solo.
@bethkille Feb 2022
Omg! I love that you went punkAF on a children’s song! Love it! Two of my favorite humans collaborating though- can’t go wrong.
@hbusse Feb 2022
Haha! So awesome. Fun lyric, Liz; I know my kids would love this. And Binky, way you’ve orchestrated the “What? No!” totally MAKES this for me.
@nancyrost Feb 2022
So! Much! Fun! The music really taps into the untamed child energy in the lyrics. Awesome!
@sarahk Feb 2022
So. Much. Energy! Y'all rocked this! Sweet, fun kid's lyric + melt-your-face guitar rawk= excellent
@zeekle1998 Feb 2022
When you’re a parent wanting to bring your kids up listening to rock, and why wouldn’t you??
Great guitar work, killer solos and the What/no’s, brilliant
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
This isn't what I was expecting, and I love it. I wish more children's music was like this. Kids are 100% punk.
@kadmad202 Feb 2022
Okay, well that gave me my first belly laugh of the day! You two nailed it in every way - couldn't think of a better mash-up than John's great rock vibe and driving rhythm and Liz's silly, but oh, so fun, nursery rhyme lyrics! Perfect
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Well I'd never have thought of coming up with a "heavy rock/punk" version. Sheer genius. That would rock their cradles at kindergarten! :-)
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Hello this is Mr. Mcgaughey. I listened with Mr. P's Grade 4/5 class.
Here are their comments.
B: It was really good. I liked the solo and how it was fast paced.
A: I like how he turned a children's song into a rock kid's song.
T: What type of guitar was that?
L: I t was a really good song, and I was playing air guitar.
L: I like how it turned out. I expected a different style of rock.
E: I t didn't sound like punk, it sounded like rock.
C: I like how he made a children's song into a punk song.
@lowhum Feb 2022
Amusing! You have no idea what children listen to these days...
@valeriecox Feb 2022
Ha ha ha! Rocked this kids song right out of the playground! Love it!
@beat Feb 2022

@nahlej381 Feb 2022
More please! This came out lit! Solid production
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
ha ha great take on a good kids lyric! the tune the Ramones missed! of course its actually a very clever well done song and that guitar is a killer
@the3queens Feb 2022
Oh, this is delightful and totally unexpected with Liz's lyrics. The "what? No! " just works perfectly. After listening I agree, Ramones version is WAY cooler. Music is tight.
@nadine Feb 2022
I wish I knew about punk rock when I was a kiddo. This rocks. And your vocal acting is pleasant to listen to.
@blainev83 Feb 2022
This is f***ing epic kindergarten rock! I’m picturing kids moshing, finger painting on the walls, terrorizing the substitute, lol. Golden.
@b3nut Feb 2022
Hahahahahahaha!!!! That's freaking awesome!!!! Who said you can't have whimsical quirkiness and ass kicking rock in the same tune? The What? No! breakdowns are just money. Great stuff...I'm still laughing! :D
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
Awesome! My version will be a bit different. Guitar solos were sprinkled in like magic. Fun collaboration!
@tseaver Feb 2022
What is there to say? Both the outrageous lyric and the over-the-top music put a huge smile on my face. My kids would've loved this when they were little (they might even admit to loving it now that they are grown up and away).
@enzo Feb 2022
super fun! Very surprising and makes me want to learn it and play it for the kiddos.
@jramonewi Feb 2022
HA! I love it. m/
@leslie Feb 2022
Bahahaha this is awesome <3 I love the "what? no!"s especially. I wish I had music like this to thrash to when I was a kid.
@sheilerk Feb 2022
Oh, I read these and they were so fun!! So glad you grabbed them up! I love this!!!
