Recently there were riots and deaths in Almaty, brought about by an energy crisis caused in part by half the world's crypto mining rigs being set up in Kazakhstan and draining the grid. Fuck Crypto and fuck NFTs
Had fun messing around with the random feature in simpler and getting all those glass taps panning around the beat.
Gunfire in Almaty
draw a weapon,
draw the ugliest cartoon
- this troglodytic tulip mania
the dumbest guys in the room
and everything the light touches,
oh god,
the ugliness consumes
there's a riot in Almaty
the ugliest, most hideous cartoon
the ugliest cartoon
in this pseudoeconomy??
an endless fucking grift
the credulous,
become unhinged cryptozoologists
- a ponzi scheme
the assets don't exist
Gunfire in Almaty
draw a weapon,
draw the ugliest cartoon
- this troglodytic tulip mania
the dumbest guys in the room
and everything the light touches,
oh god,
the ugliness consumes
there's a riot in Almaty
the ugliest, most hideous cartoon
the ugliest cartoon

Damn, this is good! Writing songs critical of our current state of madness can be difficult without being so on-point as to lose the art of it...but you've nailed it SO brilliantly here. Love the beat and all the backing tracks. Also, you're so correct: f NFTs and all associated nonsense. Humans really are the stupidest creatures on the planet.
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
Yeah, I too remember when The Simpsons was good. This is great (like The Simpsons used to be), with your voice pouring a layer of resigned calm over the hectic crypto clatter. Lyrics are spot on. But as they say on The Simpsons: where's the ska, dude?
@circle Feb 2022
always reassuring when someone else has pure contempt for crypto and NFTs. besides that, the production here is crazy. so many sounds flickering away left and right, but the panning of everything makes it super clear. I really like the affected vocal samples (?). the entire effect does make the song sound... cartoony? in a good way!
@jennakole Feb 2022
Oh my god— I’ve been playing around with the cryptozoology wordplay concept and I think your casual drop is definitely the way to do it. This is catchy as hell in all its scraps and tinks.
@iwilleatyou Feb 2022
Well that was fun!
@owl Feb 2022
Just realized I hadn’t caught up on your songs in a bit! I bet third graders would like this, they definitely enjoy hyperpop about crypto and environmental destruction, right? I love your phrasing on this and what images and references you bring into the lyrics to express what you’re trying to say. The production is full of interesting details and the vocal melody is surprisingly calm and smooth over the jittery instrumentation.
@sailingmagpie Feb 2022
Love the subtle Simpsons sample! So much to enjoy with the skittery beats and glass sounds. It's kind of reminiscent of Superorganism. So many great little turns of phrase in here too.
@judypie Feb 2022
Well I sure as fuckity don’t know what any of these words mean, but I’ll not let that put me off. Sounds delectable in my headphones, like so delicious it’s almost food. You feel me?
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
Cracking - the work in the production really pays off as it sounds great. Those panning elements give it a really unsettling feel. Cool lyrics that are really well sung. Class!
@alonetogether Feb 2022
this beat is so fucking good! love to see some hyperpop around this year. the troy mclure bits are really inspired :)
@shortdan Feb 2022
Woah, the percussion & instrumentation in this one are immense! Great lyrics as ever (I had no idea crypto mining had been a contributory factor in what was going on over there). The pitch shifted vocals are well cool. Nice work once again!
@pumpkinhead Feb 2022
Fuck crypto for sure. That is just another proof of how unbelievably stupid we are. You on the other hand makes all this into something worthwhile and I do like the panned glass taps.
Peace
@frenchcricket Feb 2022
Fucking Hell the SOPHIE blast of this beat is immense! This whole situation is wild and infuriating and the scattergun music kind of reflects that in a really compelling way. Lyrics are bullseyes, but we know this reputation from Bitters past.
@balancelost Feb 2022
Totally F NFTs, I want my Ts fungible (i.e. I like money). This tune successfully conveys the feeling of the world going fucking crazy. Fungibility factor 10! (out of a scale of 10, 1 being completely non-fungible and 10 being fungible as heck).
@santadharma Feb 2022
F NFTs, but glad this song is in existence. The lyrics are spot on and the instruments complement the concept perfectly.
@adforperu Feb 2022
If I wrote a song about NFTs, the lyrics would be terrible, but yours are absolutely great. Witty and cutting in equal measure. There's some dead interesting synths and samples going on in this way, it's bags of fun. I'm afraid the pitch-shifted vocals just remind me of Masked Singer, but otherwise I've had a great 2:23.
@vomvorton Feb 2022
"Hi, I'm Troy McClure! You may remember me from such Lowest Bitter songs as..."
This is really punchy and great, love the "in this pseudoeconomy?" line but the whole lyric is on point. Tons of great musical touches, particularly like the hooky, bendy synth lead part but the percussion is also really great!
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
The vocals sit really well in this huge mix. The percussion is great and those low "vocals" are awesome too. And somehow throughout all this madness you craft a catchy singalong melody and some meaningful interesting lyrics. Kinda hate you for that.
@alyxanderjames Feb 2022
This is incredible. Unhinged in the best way!
@blainev83 Feb 2022
So glad you’re back this year! The melodies here are infectious. Great song!
@elesimo Feb 2022
Oh, this is really good! What a great song! Thanks for writing it.
@unpronounceable Feb 2022
I love the industrial sounding percussion in this. I've always dug your style and I appreciate this song.
@evinwolverton Feb 2022
I love how well the tone of this matches the idea. It's like a misfiring arcade — a flickering, damaged drive-thru window. Loving the foley samples. Really into "pseudoeconomy" as a singable word. (We agree about the subject).
