Edit: Some contemptible scoundrel has stolen this song! Who knew that this might happen? I blame the lack of chick tracts in schools these days. See here: https://fawm.org/songs/127982/
Edit 2: Stolen AGAIN! https://fawm.org/songs/128418/ Next thing I know, a copy of this song is going to show up as a non-fungible token somewhere, making an Egyptian oil sheikh very happy and a basement libertarian very rich.
Ironically, I will not credit the inspiration for this one. However, that was at the request of the inspirer. Consent is sexy, guys.
A bit of a tongue-in-cheek callout for all those out there who like to stand on the shoulders of giants and pretend the giants aren't there,
Steal this song, I dare ya
Pick the meat from off its bones
Strike out my name and write yours
Claim its wisdom for your own
Please pilfer all the platitudes
And filch the flippant lines
Sneak off with the sentiments
There's gold in this here mine
Steal this song, I dare ya
Devil cares what I've devised
There's nothing new beneath the sun
All art is plagiarised
A treasure trove if it's
Alliteration that you're after
And much to smile about here
If you're in the mood for laughter
It's like a sea of simile
A meadow metaphoric
Just claim, alas you don't know me
A faceless soul like Yorick
Steal this song, I dare ya
Who cares what your mother taught?
It's really rather easier
That having your own thought
Just hold tight to the giants
On whose shoulders you are standing
For if, by this, they slip away...
I wish you happy landings

Ha ha ha! Love these lyrics too. You really are a very talented lyricist. Some days ago, I enjoyed listening to Burr Settles' song for these lyrics, but it's great to read them again. Fun idea for a song.
@richaaaay Mar 2022
Love this. Liner notes are hilarious, as is the song and just the entire premise. I listened to the thieves’ version…My brain still hurts from the second one…Anyways, great concept artfully crafted…

i read the thread which appears to have inspired this song, and although there is serious tongue in cheek at work here, there is some gold! 'There's nothing new beneath the sun, All art is plagiarised' is a deep reminder that we only have so may notes, so many words, and so many chords, etc to work with. similarities will often be found, but the line between inspiration and plagarism can be as thin as a piece of manuscript paper or as wide as a deep blue something!

"Steal this song, I dare ya / Devil cares what I've devised / There's nothing new beneath the sun / All art is plagiarised"
Oh yes, we stand on the shoulders of giants. @dzdandcunfsd 's interpretation is incredible in its fearlessness, and @burrsettles 's is so cool and relaxed. Two more opposite versions I cannot imagine, and equally worthy to boot.

The thing is, if I were to steal this song and claim it as my own, people would start thinking that I'm good at werds and lirricks.
Another brilliant write from the master. Yer a stunner, eh!
@sheilerk Feb 2022
I understand it's already been stolen, and by a master thief. I need to go find it now, as my curiosity has been piqued!
@blindkiwi Feb 2022
Ummmm.... not sure how to break this but... Abbie Hoffman's estate just rang and well.... They don't want you to take it down.. but you know.. ;)
@timfatchen Feb 2022
Ha! You can't trick us smart plagiarists with this sort of honey-trap, full of honeyed words and sweet invitations! It's sooo inviting there MUST be a lawyer hiding under the bed.
@dutch1967 Feb 2022
If only I had room in my chest of cheats, my voleur's vault, my (w)rapcloth of robbed rhyme, I would surely add this to my legacy of loot.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Yes spot on, yup i read the thread. Im not steelun nuffin guvnor.
Very well written! I like to see a bit of justice to be honest, but i think i’m fighting a losing battle. Hmm does this song give me an idea. Ar yes!
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Dangit. As with many of your lyrics, I was singing a specific melody as I read it off the page. Please allow me to steal this song.
@andygetch Feb 2022
Brilliant and clever as always with quite a rhythm and rollick. Was hearing a drunken chorus as I read through. I shan't be stealing this one now..........
@kellyk Feb 2022
Heeheehee... :)
@lmr Feb 2022
Love these lyrics, I think it would make quite a nice banjo song for some reason!
@cindyrella Feb 2022
You are so creative and can write about anything. A treasure!
@tawny249 Feb 2022
This has a bunch of clever lines in it. Really nice write, very catchy. And for the record, I support reuse of general ideas/archetypes, not actual plagiarism. ^_^;; God knows I don't want someone ripping entire verses from my stuff any more than anyone else here does.
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
Brilliant! and I think I will!
@mikeb Feb 2022
Oh, clever write. Could be quite a black metal song!
@metalfoot Feb 2022
:D :D :D
@judypie Feb 2022
Yassss, awesome take! Oodles of fun, I immediately hear it in my head! :D
