There are some nice bits in this one but I think the lyrics in particular need refining. The hook of the chorus I do like though, that may be the only bit that survives. Just about managed three in three days so I'm pleased either way. :)
I try to remember you
And how it used to be
It was another life
Maybe another me
Think maybe i dreamt it
Bet you wish you had
Do you think it was worth it
When it turned bad
It hit me like a river
Finding its way to the sea
I think it took you the walk home
To forget about me
And all of the memories
You made me erase
So we can pretend
They were never made
It's been a long time coming
Thought the pain was evermore
I can say it and mean it now
I don't love anymore
Do you ever think about
How it could have been
It wouldn't have worked out
The way that it seemed
Cause I was a dreamer
I was your escape
I'm thinking a mess of life
Was all we could make
Well now we can look back
As the memories fade
And know that at best it was
Our best mistake
It could've been different
But it all turned out right
The best choice you made
Was disappearing in the night
It's been a long time coming
Thought the pain was evermore
I can say it and mean it now
I don't love you anymore
And I know I fall easy
Falling out was never me
I've taken my time with it all
And now I finally know that I'm free
It's been a long time coming
Since you walked out the door
I can say it and mean it now
I don't love you anymore
I don't love you anymore

Terrific songwriting. There’s barely any music backing in places but the space in this is what makes it so hauntingly beautiful. Just fabulous.

Are you serious!?! This knocks it out of the park, dude. The vocal performance is so dynamic yet controlled. The guitar is delicate and exactly what is needed here without distraction from the message of the lyrics. Congrats on yet another excellent song.

Wow. Some really powerful words in there. Beautiful vocal performance with real weight and depth. Nice one!

Wow! Found this through the "Play Random" button, and I'm glad it landed here. Great lyrics, great vocals, great guitar work. Reminds me a bit of Paddy O'Casey. I always appreciate a song that's captivating with just acoustic guitar and vocals - and this fits the bill!.

Stephen, you can sing the fine print on an insurance policy and make it sound good. No exception here. If you do happen to rework the lyrics like you mention, I'd suggest maybe using that awesome V1 as the chorus for another song. FWIW, I think it could be that hooky.

The FAWMers have spoken, you've got to keep this one!! In fact I think it's my favorite track I've heard so far :) The lyric and delivery was painstakingly raw and emotive, I especially loved the hook in the chorus and the "at best it was our best mistake" line. It reminded me of a crossover between Damien Rice and Shane McAnally(Mack), which is high praise indeed.
I hope you don't mind some potential suggestions, although it is pretty damn near perfect as it is - I wondered in the 2nd verse if something like "do you think it was worth it, after the fact" or "do you think it was worth it, there's no turning back" would work. And maybe "It wouldn't have worked out, that wasn't me, cause I was a dreamer"

Oh i knew i would like this in the intro! So much emotion in the vocal, reminds me of an ol favourite Steve Forbert. Very good lyric! The real deal for sure!

Another beauty! I don't know how you smash out these gems in such a short space of time.

This put me in mind of Heartbreaker (Adams rather than Warwick) and that's never bad a thing. I really like the feel of exhausted relief in the lyric which is appropriately reflected in the delivery. Just a personal view but I think this might be stronger than you think - not everything has to be polished necessarily and I hear this and immediately "I believe you" if that makes sense.
@alyxanderjames Feb 2022
This is really lovely, and your delivery feels so sincere. A pensive little bit of heartache.
@bridgett Feb 2022
the lyrics are heart-wrenching, well-written, nice job
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
I hope you don't mind compliments by way of comparison, but this could easily fit on one of my favorite records, pre-cancelled Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker.

I agree with @kenmattsson. It is a song that will get the audience to shut up.
The luxury of thinking you will chuck most of this in the bin is incredible. It is a gorgeous track.

I was struck by your vocal entrance. That word "try" just ran through me and the vocals kept up the wave: forward and back and up and down. This is the type of song that quiets the crowd. Despite your comments about not wanting to keep much of it, I think it's a winner!
@tukayandryan Feb 2022
Wow. The vulnerability is tangible here. If you could not make me cry again this FAWM it would be appreciated
This is so relatable and poignant. The stripped back nature of it is definitely a strength to convey the depth of emotion.
