Having never done a skirmish till yesterday, I fancied a second today. Another four-track effort, based around the Casio PT-80, but using some chords and the 'Beguine' pattern this time. No idea what beguine is. Should probably look it up.
Written and recorded in 55 minutes, and it took another 35 minutes to get it into a computer and write all this nonsense.
Was going for a Dylan-esque Subterranean Homesick Blues kinda feel, at least lyrically. Suspect he took longer than 15 minutes to write that song and he probably had more takes to get the timing right. I mean, he probably did. I don't know that though.
Vocal is weirdly 'roomy' - I put it through a guitar reverb pedal, but couldn't be bothered to crawl under the desk to see what setting it was on. A big-ish reverb apparently.
Anyway. Quite like the feel of this, if not the execution. Can I claim a body part too for the mention of eyes?? Win.
We grant you now a posthumous ending, the times have changed, the times have mended and we see the signs that we have posted. A coda's here as you demanded. See yourself, the state you're in, please yourself cos you always did and you're wasting time finding faults of mine, cos they're hidden well behind my eyes. The goalposts shift when values change, that's the point I'll rearrange. It's not a trick, yeah, a flight of fancy, I own the right to make a chancey. The fatal flaw in every plan are the filthy dreams of a tiny man. See yourself, the state you're in, please yourself cos you always did and you're wasting time finding faults of mine, cos they're hidden well behind my eyes. The goalposts shift when values change, that's the point I'll rearrange. Hey. Look at the state you're in. Look at the state we're all in. The bridge is the most fun part of this one. I love the fact that you were able to cram so much lyric into such a small song.

This is loads of fun, great work in or out of a skirmish. The lyrical flow goes perfectly with that Casio groove. Very tasty!

The keyboards and vocals sound cool and I love the Rhythm... it has a Ska feel to it. I like the wordy lyric dnd kow you phrased them.
@brisk Feb 2022
This is great, and I see the Dylan influence - I can picture you flicking big bits of paper off a stack in the video. Love the jauntiness. I'm amazed that a four track sounds so good - mine was rubbish, and I couldn't ever get it to sound good, but maybe that's on me.

Always a fan of pre-programmed rhythm lofi tracks. The background is used super effectively.
@vomvorton Feb 2022
I've always said that I'd be more of a Dylan fan if he'd embraced low-end Casio keyboards, and I stand by that. That bleepy beguine beat sounds brilliant, and I like the buzziness of the guitar. Reverby vocals work too, it's a fun piece and an excellent hour's work!

Can’t go wrong with the Casio. That’s Lesson 1 in my online music making course that I haven’t made yet. All I know about the beguine is it features in a lyric sung by a talking crab in Disney’s Little Mermaid. And I probably shouldn’t know that, given I’m a middle aged man with two boys. Anyways, this is pretty darn cool for an hour and a bit’s work. I actually love the flow of the vocal delivery, and might try that voice through guitar reverb pedal trick sometime…

Dug it. Super catchy sounding.

"I put it through a guitar reverb pedal, but couldn't be bothered to crawl under the desk to see what setting it was on. " hahaha
well this has a cool unique vibe all round. really steams along. i like the quickfire lyrics and they are intriguing and interesting. fantastic skirmish and i am liking your 4 track stuff

Love your aesthetic! The Casio rhythm Interplays s really nicely with whatever instrument is playing the bass role here (what is it? The kind of rubber band sounding thing)

what is a skirmish? Frank Sidebottom meets Dylan
@vivalarayna Feb 2022
Yup, love the new wave vibe here. It really works well with the lyrics. Good energy throughout. I particularly like the line "The fatal flaw in every plan are the filthy dreams of a tiny man."
@hurongrand Feb 2022
I like the vocal effect! I agree with porrectus' comment that it sounds retro — I'm getting some 80's new wave vibes. Very nice!
@keithcuts Feb 2022
Goalposts shift when the values change. Cool line
Nicely done
@sheilerk Feb 2022
That really moves along. I like it a lot!! It keeps you listening intently as the clever phrases flow over you. I love that you posted your process. That's so cool! And, heck yeah you can claim a win on the body part challenge!
@porrectus Feb 2022
