The music for this one isn't gelling yet, so I'm putting it aside for the now so I can work on the next one. Will come back to this before the end of the month...
The Ringing In My Ears

[SONG 1 FAWM 2022 2/3/2022]
I took the ringing in my ears
into the woods
The woods replaced it
With the smell of moss
And the flash of tiny birds
I took the sorrow in my soul
Into the hills
The hills erased it
With a hum of growing
underground
And a taste of altitude
I took the worry in my heart
Into the hills
The hills exchanged it
For a promise of ripe berries
When I pass this way again.
If I pass this way again.
I took a lifetime of regrets into the woods
And set them down
For just a moment
And when I went to pick them up
They were nowhere to be found.
I try to leave no trace
But I wonder as I wander
If the memory of my passing
Will be woven into birdsongs
Or rippled into rivers
Or dissolved among the blossoms
Or accounted in the treerings
Or will I leave no trace
I try to leave no trace.
I took your love
with me
into the woods
Scattered seeds like breadcrumbs
And they grew among the briars
And the flowers lit my footsteps
Like the sunlight through the poplars
I took the ringing in my ears
into the woods
The woods replaced it
With the smell of moss
And the flash of tiny birds
With the smell of moss
And the flash of tiny birds
I took the worry in my heart
Into the hills
The hills exchanged it
For a promise of ripe berries
When I pass this way again.
If I pass this way again.
When I pass this way again.
If I pass this way again.

Beautiful. I'm fortunate that where I live I can go for exactly this sort of walk when the ringing in my ears gets too much. This song makes me realise just how lucky that makes me.

Beautiful lyrics! I love how you swerve to the personal in "I took your love with me into the woods." And there are some wonderful images in here, like the "flash of tiny birds." I'm looking forward to the recording!

Beautiful word pictures. Just reading it makes me feel like I'm doing it as I read.

Great descriptive stuff. very poetic

Nice write. The "just for a moment ... it was gone" image seems particularly apt. Offertory and transmutation are a great pair.

Very pretty lyric.
