Feb 2022 mandolin one take canadiana cowcore
Winter/ Royal Winter Fair/ best time of the year for show people and farmers to network. But what do the cows think about it?
The days are growing shorter
Winter weather's closing in
Thoughts of our warm and cosy beds
It's such a regular routine
We eat and sleep, eat some more
And put on a little weight
It's work day everyday
Not too much to celebrate.
But when the winter winds do blow
Thoughts of our little getaway
The Royal Winter Fair is
like a spa holiday
If you're a bit long in the tooth, you can take back some your youth
Get clipped, trimmed, and derma brazed, at The Udder Spa Place
You feel just like a princess, painted toes and curled up eyelashes
Hair all styled, with ribbons and bows. and a shiny gold ring through my nose
Then it's walking down the red carpet
Just like a beauty queen
hold your head up, stand there proudly
for everyone to see.
It's nice to be pampered once in awhile
But the after glow too soon wears thin
When its time to return to the everyday
and the daily routine once again
Yearning for those green fields and flowers in the spring
when we were so carefree Enjoying everything
in our minds, we're running free the summer breezes cool our skin
Free and easy in the fields Just like a young heifer again

I was enjoying your voice and mandolin plenty, and then when I realized you were singing from the cow's perspective I was absolutely delighted!

Nice transformation from the winter/nature (and the everyday) and the pampered bits in the middle and the back to the nature at the end. I'm intrigued by a song with no clear (or consistent) rhyme scheme (there are a few -- the near rhyme of queen/see or getaway/holiday and the occasional close-by rhyme or even the last verse ABAB), but they pop up in unexpected places). To pull that off you need solid meter, which you have. Nice job! #tit4tat (returning)

I like the laid back tempo of this song it gives your voice space to breath. I love the udder place spa as an image (not sure I want to go!) The tale of the yearning cow is really nicely put together lyrically it bristles with humour but also a empathetic wistfulness that is really sweet. I enjoyed this - great song

I've quickly grown fond of the gentle, imaginative humour in your songs. And this one is a great example. I mean, for starters it the perfect, unhurried pace fora song sung by a cow, and the melody has a lovely pastrol lilt to it as it meanders through these bovine ruminations.
It's also very nicely played and sung. Great job.

I am enjoying that this is from a cow's viewpoint. I didn't read the liner notes properly and missed that at first! Lol. I like the little lilt in your voice, it does sound like you're reminiscing. Fun thoughts and images here, cows going to a spa.
@jayjay Feb 2022
You have a wonderfully engaging way of setting stories to music. Truly entrancing #tit4tat

@arthurrossi Feb 2022
The lyrics are mesmerizing... Some wonderful imagery here. Lovely tune and I love the mandolin. Your vocal delivery is so beautiful!
@apolez3 Feb 2022
There is a old-time history in your voice; sweet lute. Delicate outtake & thoughtful lyrics.
@crutherford Feb 2022
the royal winter fair was an annual migration for my family as well.
i attended for the fudge!
cowcore hey? i'm into it!
lovely mandolin playing here.
i love the meander of this story.
how the hope in the end is for spring - not next year's beauty pagent.
this made me smile.
@robheron1 Feb 2022
Ha! Shiny gold ring in our nose. A young heifer again. I'm not going to be able to look at a girl with a nose ring without laughing!
@sunnysays Feb 2022
Love how your mandolin sounds on this one. Hahaha Love the udder spa place line mootastic :)
@raspberry33 Feb 2022
Lovely voice and mandolin! But now I'm thinking that we gain two minute of sunlight every day, and maybe that deserves a song. Love the "long in the tooth-youth" couplet. Wish I'd thought of that~
@srcoops Feb 2022
Your voice and playing are very pleasant. Nice one.
@robheron1 Feb 2022
Nice tune. I like your singing on those changes.
@freddie13 Feb 2022
Great picking Linda..Great lyrics..good job.
@elesimo Feb 2022
I love that the narrator is a cow, it's clever! Lovely playing and singing!
@bobjestes Feb 2022
Linda… in lieu of jamming with people at this time, I suggest playing with your favorite singers/ musicians while listening to their recordings. I can’t tell you how much this helps in learning to play with others… and they can’t hear any mistakes that might happen.
@moonraccoon Feb 2022
Very sweet, a positive experience of nostalgia inside the everyday.
@bobjestes Feb 2022
Your mandolin playing is getting so much improved! (Compared to last year). Keep it up. Nice mellow lyrics. Good job.
@breezyanna Feb 2022
Gosh that’s so charming! You have such fun and clever word play! It is reminiscent of some of Hazel Dicken’s playful material.
@estebanlartigue Feb 2022
Liked the flow of the melody and great setups!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Another entry for your Cowcore series! Very cute word play, lovely singing and tasteful playing. Good job.
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
Nice picking. The gentle vocal fits it well. Took me a moment to realize the story was through the eyes of a cow. Ha!
@theicylakes Feb 2022
Cute little tune!
