I found this challenge on Reddit and decided I needed to get to work and write some stuff, since I have been neglecting my creativity for too long.
This was inspiring, and I'm so glad I found it! Self-doubt is a killer, and even though this ain't no Grammy winner, it felt reassuring to sit down and write a song just because I wanted to. I hope you enjoy it!
Fear of Missing Out
Doors are locked
Doors are open
Back and forth
But I’m still hopin’
They can’t find the keys
Or if they can
At least they can’t find me
No matter what you try to sell
We’re still all stuck in a special kind of hell
I stay in
You get out
There’s nothing out there
To be glad about
So extreme
So devout
You’re a prick
So tell me how I’m missing out?
You’re all volume
Bile and bluster
Hollow words
And I can’t muster
The will to follow you
Or the emptiness
Of all you say and do
I’m okay here in the dark
You raise your voice and make your mark
You get your message on the road
And I’ll stay here and lock and load
What you’re selling
I won’t buy
What you call freedom
Is the quickest way to die
Chorus out

I love that urgent feel of being dragged along by the drums. Reminds me of how much I loved listening to Dinosaur Junior among others in the 90s.
Thanks for posting this one.
(In response to your liner notes, I somehow found it really reassuring when I heard someone say that to be a songwriter, write 200 songs and the first hundred don't count. Somehow that gave me permission to go on and write all the songs, rather than trying to write THE song. FAWM seems like a great place to give the inner critic the month of and let the inner pot banger have at it.)

This rocks! And great message in the lyrics (assuming I have correctly interpreted them). Welcome to FAWM!

FAWM is definitely a great place to let your creativity flow and forget the self criticism! You might end up in surprising places. This sounds like it was really fun to make, and the groove is definitely there. Energetic and rocking!
