I didn't really have a "high school sweetheart" but I dated my co-star in the school musical my Senior Year and we were pretty hot and heavy for 3 months give or take. It wasn't quite as epic a love story as the show we were in together, (Little Shop of Horrors) and he dumped me the week before opening night but it truly was a fun relationship and I really did like fooling around with him. And it was fun hearing the silly rumors that we'd gotten back together after people saw us kiss in the show. Good times.
Its a sold out house
Every seat is filled
You and I, center stage
we're in love and we're thrilled
sure we broke the damn rules
and they said we were cursed
I know they're only jealous
coz I got you first
Its gonna be you and me babe
getting cozy on the front of the Playbill
its gonna be you and me babe
Sneaking out late, painting the town
ain't it a shame, everyone thinks
we're both just a couple of clowns
But it don't matter to me
long as we keep foolin around
My boys got edge
he's the star of the show
He's got eyes so bright its obscene
and I've got a voice
that could melt solid snow
Put us together-we're a dynamic team
A duet made in heaven
A shimmering pair
We are destined for glowing reviews
and when we walk down the halls
all we hear are guffaws
But honey
they;ll never have what we do
Its gonna be you and me babe
getting cozy on the front of the Playbill
yea its gonna be you and me babe
sneaking out late, painting the town
ain't it a shame everyone thinks
we're both just a couple of clowns
But it don't matter to me
and as long as we keep foolin around
And then the curtains go down
and the lights go out
will the magic fade into the dawn
will you toss me aside
for your own selfish pride
and will I even notice you're gone
I suppose the show must go on
It was you and me babe
getting cozy on the front of the Playbill
it was you and me babe
sneaking out late, painting the town
ain't it a shame everyone thought
we were both just a couple of clowns
But it didn’t matter to me
and as long as we keep foolin
Kept it short and sweet
coz we both needed schoolin
but I liked the part where we
were just foolin' around

Very impressive!

This is adorable. I can picture a vaudevillian soft-shoe by a couple of lovable clowns. Charming, witty, bit bittersweet (the week before opening night? jeeesh) ... all-around lovely tune.

Wow, fantastic storytelling and a wonderful delivery! "I suppose the show must go on" is such a good part of the song with it's double meaning. Bravo! Can we get more?:-)

Oh wow!! This is fantastic. The chords, the delivery, the story, the tag at the end, everything is so exactly perfect for the song. Is that a banjolele? It really adds to the Tin Pan Alley feel. And you’ve captured the fleeting nature of high school romance quite well. I can’t say enough good things about this, it’s that good.

An enjoyable listen taking us back with your old time Jazz sound. Loving the changes, melodies, form, your voice, lyrics and over all feel. Truly a charming tune.
