Feb 2022 fawmtronica old-folkie-with-sampler maschine
I'm primarily an acoustic folkie but I've been monkeying with a Native instruments Maschine Controller for about 4 months. I have been using Melodics to help me learn basic finger drumming skills (and assist me with trying to understand that thing that drummers do). I am just now at the stage where I can load samples, craft loops and assemble them into something resembling a song. I am going to try do a sample based something every day this FAWM. They are not polished productions but my path to adding these modern tools to my box of crayons. If anyone wishes to expand on these sketches, add lyrics, etc.., drop me a line and I can hook you up with Maschine files (and maybe midi if I learn how to export those).
Nope-- if you hear some let me know and we can collab.

Love this!

Its got a nice melody brotha.. keep FAWMING it up!!!

Nice. The combination of sound, tempo, and chords took me to the beach also, wondering where all the old surfers went.
I've been watching YouTube videos lately by Guy Michelmore. He has some interesting stuff about software-based composition.

So, I'm getting some chilly sensations of being alone inside the airlock of a space-faring vessel while it slowly leaks all my precious air into outer space. The hissing air sounds are mixed to be intense, relentless. Then there's a resigned sadness to the melody and chords. The calm after the panic.

that noisy wash is great, sounds like the beach on an absolutely horrible day. i'd be super interested to hear that kind of sound behind one of your folk guitar songs, i think it could sound great
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
you have certainly captured the sounds and moods of a town possessed by a major hurricane, from the heavy gusts to various alarms and finally the deserted emptiness following evacuation
@moonraccoon Feb 2022
I can feel the cold in that wash of airiness. The synths have a dark sadness to them.

Lovely melodic stuff. I've been afraid to go into "electronica" myself. This is inspiring, though...
Nice job!
@metricula Feb 2022
Oh heck yes!! I love folk and electronic music too and would love to chat more about it. Love what you've done with the sound design here
@splittybooms Feb 2022
Kudos on your journey into electronic stuff!
Finger drumming is really rewarding and I find it is a lot more intimate than programming in a drum sequencer, but they both have love from me.
I dig that you banged out the drums the entire track through; that's how I used do things when all I had were a couple of drum machines and a mixer.
I agree with jonmeta about the electronic noise resembling wind; that works well for the vibe of this track. Its melancholy for me, due to the chords used and the lead melody. LOVE the lead instrument you chose, one of my favorite sounds.
I hope you continue on down the electro road!
@jonmeta Feb 2022
I adore this analogue sound, live the way you’ve manipulated the electronic noise to mimic wind and the melancholy melody that evokes cold and hygga at the same time.
@tuneslayer Feb 2022
Nice. Makes me wonder if I couldn't do something creative with nature sounds.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Very cool. I like the sounds of the wind and water in it. As it's winter, it's a familiar sound. Another area for me to see if I can start doing.
