Maybe my best first song ever? It's sort of a mix between the feelings of people struggles and songwriting struggles. I'd say maybe half the lyrics felt forced, but the other half rang pretty true. A good warm up, as they say...
You've gotta let me warm up:
I haven't been here in awhile.
And I know I've lost my touch,
but I promise I could solve this riddle.
People might say it's all the same–
I don't blame them; they don't know better.
Until they're guarded and afraid,
they will still wonder.
What if what you want is what I want?
What if we're not passing ships
that forge ahead, the other one forgot:
prejudice gone, armor removed,
so you see me and I see you.
What if what you want is what I want?
You made me think I had a chance.
I still overthought it and under-acted.
You must have had the same flashback
and run for cover; I couldn't be trusted.
How could you know my heart was true
when who I am looked like I used to?
And how could I be such a fool
not to reassure you?
What if what you want is what I want?
What if we're not passing ships
that forge ahead, the other one forgot:
prejudice gone, armor removed,
so you see me and I see you.
What if what we want is what we've got?
And if you would say the words, I'd understand;
instead, you run the second anything could go bad.
And if you gave me time, you would see
I'm the person that you've always hoped I'd be.
Your benefit is my doubt,
and I've proven both for myself.
I thought you'd see this one out–
I'll never know now.
What if what you want is what I want?
What if we're not passing ships
that forge ahead, the other one forgot:
prejudice gone, armor removed,
so you see me and I see you.
Maybe what we want is not enough,
but what if what you want is what I want?

Lovely write! The pure tone of your voice along with the simple guitar chording, against the wistfulness of the lyrics. The melodic rise in the chorus hooks the ear in right away. And that minor chord at the end of the bridge is just perfect.

I love getting lost in a melody. With how you're singing this you could be singing about literally anything and I'd love it. Great voice. Really well done. Just gonna sit back and enjoy this.

I love the place the melody goes in the chorus! Some great turns of phrase within the clearly expressed emotion, too. I like "your benefit is my doubt" in particular.

it's a great song with good lyrics that captures so many of the ins and outs of trying to start a relationship.

killer chorus and really lovely melancholy vibes (Plus I'm always weak for those ending major-to-minor chords)

I love the alliteration of the hook! Chorus is killer. Great first song!
