Feb 2022 fuc ukulele guy-with-ukulele tenor-uke acoustic-one-take
For International Ukulele Day, or Play Your Ukulele Day, or whatever it is, it's a song to celebrate the little instrument that I've come to love. And love. And Love.
I think Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome, similar to Guitar Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) , or Acquired Musical Instrument Syndrome (AMIS) is all about when we all see another instrument, and then want to have it. That was the inspiration for this one.
Enjoy Groundhog Day, Candelmas, St. Bridget's Day and Imbolc too!
I [C] met my first one in[G]side a music [C] shop
After the first caress I [F] knew I [G] couldn’t [C] stop
I [F] brought him home to play a bit, and [C] I became ob[G]sessed
I [C] got so focused on the strums, I [F] hardly [G] could get [C] dressed
I [C] took my little partner to a [G] gathering to [C] find
That many more were there and all of [F] different [G] shape and [C] kind
The [F] sound I heard just made me want to [C] have a fling or [G] two
And [C] I decided then to put my [F] wants in[G]to a [C] queue
Chorus
I [F] love my ukuleles and I [C] hug them to my [G] chest
I [F] have so many different kinds, I [G] don’t know which is best
I [F] can’t tell you my favorite as [C] each one I a[G]dore
How [C] many of them do I need? [F] Just [G] one [C] more
A [C] concert was my first one, and a [G] tenor was the [C] next
I became so crazy that I [F] thought that [G] I was [C] hexed
I [F] needed one with high G and a [C] low G for the [G] change
And [C] then I got a baritone [F] to ex[G]tend the [C] range
Chorus
I’ve been [C] told I have a problem and to [G] go and get it [C] checked
But I feel fine and happier the [F] more that [G] I col[C]lect
I am [F] happy having Ukulele [C] Acquisition [G] Syndrome
The [C] only problem now is that I [F] need a [G] bigger [C] home
Chorus

I don't know how I missed this delightful uke tribute! But here I am listening now.
You have such a wonderful voice - rich, flowing, storytelling.
I have three ukes - I should get more!
@kendrakinsey Mar 2022
I love that this is a love song to ukuleles! I love them too but I've only ever had one
@williamjames Mar 2022
This one really speaks to me. I tend to become obsessed with instruments, to the extent of building them myself :) Very well sung and played, the last verse really sums it up perfect!
@thedutchwidows Mar 2022
A love song to your instrument is such a cool idea! And this is really well-executed. A great tune, and really nicely played. The GAS/UAS is real!
@seppo Mar 2022
Ha!
This wraps all of us gearwankers who has always GAS and loves our instruments :)
@driftwood1 Mar 2022
A love song to the instrument itself is a great angle(and very relatable, at least to us Fawmers). This is a nice bit of storytelling as well. We get to watch the collection grow and the "problem" get solved. Fun song and a lovely performance. #listeningskirmish
@standup Mar 2022
Uke sounds great, full and balanced! Nice recording.
I have Musical Instrument Acquisition Syndrome, which I bet you understand. I don't focus on one type. I want ONE OF EACH.
I hear you. Ukes are addictive. I have two and I used to have three (and I have a uke bass, that one gets played more than the others, it's right beside the desk and it sounds SO GOOD--I'm a bass player, but that sound is fatter than the big basses). I got the first one on a trip to Hawaii, it's made by a local small builder, it's a soprano and tuning it is painful. I should replace those silly friction tuning pegs.
The one I play the most is a Kala concert uke, it's very lovely to play. I had a tenor for a while, but released it back into the wild.
@crutherford Mar 2022
so charming!
there are so many great lines in this one!
but this is the diamond of them all (to me)
I am [F] happy having Ukulele [C] Acquisition [G] Syndrome
The [C] only problem now is that I [F] need a [G] bigger [C] home
bravo! it was a joy to listen to this!
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Very true, fun tune. So well put together, great beat, and strum.
@rubberbandage Feb 2022
Absolutely marvelous! This is one of the best uke songs I’ve heard so far! I’m going to give my own ukuleles a little hug again on your behalf :-)
@nancycunning Feb 2022
What a sweet love song. I was inspired, and I bought my first ukelele this week, Looking forward to becoming obsessed.
@mckillop Feb 2022
What a great way to start the morning!
3 minutes of pure happiness.
Great vocals, and your uke strumming is solid as a rock.
I have a uke, and have been trying to make time to learn to play.
It is a great sound.
Nice work!
@chrisshepard Feb 2022
Nice little uke song...with a how-to-play included! I need a ukulele!
@moonraccoon Feb 2022
This is so cute. My fave line "I got so focused on the strums, I hardly could get dressed". Yes! Let the world wait! I'm presentable enough to strum!
@colgoo Feb 2022
I like that you wrote a love song to (and with) your ukuleles! Nicely done. Why have just one love, when your ukuleles really wants company? Theme explored with humor and fantastic playing!
@eas3637 Feb 2022
Wow, your playing and singing on this is just great. Very tight rhymes in the lyrics, and I love the way you have personified the ukes, with lines like "I brought him home to play a bit" and "made me want to have a fling or two."
@seemanski Feb 2022
Ha, this had me smiling from ear to ear. Keep collecting you can never have enough. Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome, brilliant!
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
A nice tribute ditty. Something about the line "I got so focused on the strums, I hardly could get dressed" was humorous to me, like this guy is losing control of his necessary daily functions.
@dee Feb 2022
This is such a happy song. I feel your ukuleles are like your children- you can’t pick a favourite. But also you’re like a lady buying shoes- just one more pair. Lol.
Great melody and storytelling.
@marthie Feb 2022
Wonderful friendly song about an addiction
@danvaillancourt Feb 2022
Ha! Love it. Just one more! Laughed throughout... too relatable. ;)
@taracraig Feb 2022
Great story telling and absolutely perfect for Uke day. I think many of us around here can relate, "How many do I need? just ONE MORE!"
@guatecoop Feb 2022
Classic uke!! So catchy and fun. I have never played one but your playing makes it sound appealing… excellent song, but it’s going to be in my head for the next month!
@dukemeyer Feb 2022
Oh, this is so cute! Love the lyrics - I understand your collecting so well - and the easy way of the melody. Fine song!
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
Great performance. Your voice has a wonderful vintage quality to it…you wanna do a doo-wop song together? I hope this sounds as complimentary as I’m intending it…fun Uke song, love your vocals
@analogj Feb 2022
Ken, this should be the anthem for the UAS group. I love it!
@lowhum Feb 2022
Yeah, ukes! They keep on coming... Once a friend gets one, next week ten more show up with ukes! But I guess it's a string instrument issue. I'm more of a mandolin guy and I somehow managed to get them down to two!
@nancyrost Feb 2022
This will surely be a hit on the ukulele club circuit! I am uke-monogamous, but only because I collect bass guitars.
Such a cute, sincere delivery. The high note at the end is perfect!
@ofishell Feb 2022
This perfectly captures the delight that musicians experience when they get their first ukulele! I have hugged mine a time or two. Hilariously, though, I have no idea what kind of uke I have. What your song also captures is the perfectly sweet way that a ukulele makes every song have...even sad songs are tender on a uke. :-)
@mikedebenham Feb 2022
Pleased to know I'm not the only one who disrobes upon buying a new ukulele. Delightful stuff, Ken.
@theodamus Feb 2022
So relatable - they're so little, surely one more won't hurt? Really like the ukulele chug and stops in the accompaniment - this feels like a classic 20s ukulele singalong, perfect for a tribute to the instrument!
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Sweet ode to the uke! Love the uke acquisition syndrome! I understand it is contagious. Luckily I don’t yet have it - I only have six.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
Lol this is hilarious!
As a uke player I relate to all of this
Catchy tune and so fun :)
@oswlek Feb 2022
I imagine most of us could write a similar tribute to one instrument or another. For me, it was my first acoustic guitar. It was a crappy classical guitar that I was oblivious enough to put steel strings on. It was the worst of both worlds! Steel strings and high wide frets! But I was hooked. Five hours of play a day, minimum, and it went with me everywhere.
Fun tune with a nice, traditional sounding melody. The lyric is obvious relatable, and it brought more than one smile, especially the bits about "just one more" and needing a bigger home. :)
Well done!
@owl Feb 2022
So relatable! Very cheerful and nicely performed and recorded.
@oaksnprairie Feb 2022
Oh yes! This is my life, especially the fourth verse (although maybe I got the banjolele before the bari). Love the cheerful tune and strumming!
@wobbiewobbit Feb 2022
isn't it lovely that there is such a thing as a "good UKE song" and this is one. sweet song and the chorus made me smile. nice story build to the last line, really enjoyable :)
@scubed Feb 2022
What a sweet and fun song for Ukulele Day! And I totally agree with the number of ukuleles you need. :)
@leslie333 Feb 2022
Ha! It should be UUB's theme song. Fun song.
@mikeb Feb 2022
I think you have captured the joy and love of UAS with this fun-filled song!
@jtsteam Feb 2022
Heh, yes, I have this problem too :). I still need a 6 string... Very catchy, and you have a lovely voice!
@nadine Feb 2022
Lol I liked that you wrote a lovesong for your uke. Yours has a pleasant sound. Most are too happy and high for me. Great catchy tune.
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
Happy belated Uke Day!! These lyrics are incredibly clever. Your playing is lovely. That tenor voice of yours is as smooth as silk. Love it!!
@roddy Feb 2022
A very good song indeed. Very witty lyrics and lovely strumming.
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Yea to the ukulele.. Nice song. I have 3 mandolins now, they all have differences, and I can use them as needs be. It is nice to have a collection.
@valeriecox Feb 2022
Ode to ukulele. Love it! Fun tune, and so relatable. It's uke a couple years ago and really can't stop playing it. And I'm a guitar girl. This is great. And you write it on ukulele day. Perfect.
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
I felt like you were in my head. Wonderful ukulele love song. "How many do I need? Just one more." Very well put! I enjoyed my listen.
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
Brilliant! Yes, UAS is a thing - and to write a song about that on Feb 2nd, on the uke is just perfection itself - Excellent delivery! Ha ha at Just One More!
@suehaney Feb 2022
You are not the only one - I have 5!
I like the "just one more" change in rhythm. Very cute song!
@liz561 Feb 2022
Love the double entendres in this song at the beginning. And of course, we always want more ukes!!
@elesimo Feb 2022
Love the clever rhymes in this one, and it always amaze me how you make singing sound so effortless! And I love the line about needing... just... one... more. We can all relate!
@evinwolverton Feb 2022
I have this cool octuple-lele. The guy who sold it to me called it a "harp." Sucker. (Still trying to figure out how to play a G, though).
@jyllian Feb 2022
I love this relationship - so comical and fun. Not what I was expecting from the title. Really crisp amd clear singing too. Love it!
@odilongreen Feb 2022
As a fellow uke player, I am well acquainted with uke GAS, much to my spouse's dismay, who complains I'm taking over the house. ;) Anyway, this is a fun and jaunty song perfectly suited to the uke, and the lyrics of course are spot on--I bet this would be a HUGE hit at ukulele gatherings and festivals (once we can have those again). I had a really good time listening, both musically and lyrically!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
ha ha what a good tribute to the uke for world uke day! but i do have a favourite! nice song Ken
@berni1954 Feb 2022
OMG you are writing my life over the last ten years!
Every line echoes my obsession with this cute little instrument (or not so small in the case of Baris )
Are you on the Ukulele Underground? If not, you should be.
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
what a great ode to the uke! nicely done, and the recording sounds good!
