Feb 2022 fuc girl-with-ukulele
In the spirit of getting the first one out there to break the spell... This is nothing like what I thought it was going to be, but it's Feb 2nd, it's FAWM, it's Ukulele Day... it's done.
And somehow fitting to start FAWM with a song about one of my kids, as they featured in my first ever FAWM five years ago! My 8 yr old has this special toothpaste that changes colour to blue when you're done... and boy does it make a mess!
Your toothpaste stains on my pristine white sink
They rile me so, I kick up another stink
How many times must I tell you the same thing
Do you care at all 'bout what I think?
Ten years and counting, until you fly the nest
Lord only knows I sure have tried my best
It won't be long til all that I have left
is your Toothpaste stains on my pristine white sink
My head aches and my heart hurts
There's more of this to come
You do your best, you do your worst
How long til this is done?
Ten years and counting, until you fly the nest
Lord only knows I sure have tried my best
It won't be long til all that I have left
is your Toothpaste stains on my pristine white sink
But then there's the moments
When you hold me oh so tight
And I know with all my senses
That you'll turn out just right
And when we have low-ments
When all we do is fight
We'll mend our fences
As day turns into night
and day, and night and day
night and day...
Ten years and counting, until you fly the nest
Lord only knows I sure have tried my best
It won't be long til all that I have left
is your Toothpaste stains on my pristine white sink

So heartfelt and wonderful and a perfect ukulele meditation. Great start and a lovely slice of life story. The uke sounds awesome and the harmonies fit the mood perfectly. Well done!
@abudabard12514 Feb 2022
Maaaaaaaaaaan, come ON now with the delightful bittersweet uke jams! Got me choppin onions over here
@nancycunning Feb 2022
Oh, this one made me tear up. Maybe because suddenly it's more like ten weeks til my big one flies the nest. Low-ments is a wonderful rhyme for moments...The toothpaste stains are a wonderful thing to capture. You're doing a good job - Momming and singing about momming.
@zecoop Feb 2022
Such a sweet story and wonderful uke playing. I remember the times with young kids and the little things that can seem big in a moment. It all flies by so fast. This will be a brilliant memory. Lovely! :)
@gindark Feb 2022
Fabby! Love the harmonising and the theme is so adorable. Captures a little bluegrass even though it's a uke. Great start!
@jorh Feb 2022
Fantastic little story that sparked the song - I feel your pain, scrubbing hardened toothpaste of the sink is a legit nightmare ;) I love the humour in the lyric, but then the magic happens in the bridge, which is full of love, and gives a whole new meaning to the final chorus
@readwrite Feb 2022
A delightful little story, with the drama of little tiny domestic irritations and how large they loom in our lives! against the good times, which sometimes get lost in the daily stuff. I like what you do with melody and uke chords to point up the emotion and the situation.
@roddy Feb 2022
What a good song and performance! You tell a great story with these clever lyrics. Nice harmonies too.
@dragondreams Feb 2022
Sweet, slightly barbed, and poignant, :-D
I love it! Mine moved out almost twenty years ago, but I'm still finding false nails and hair extensions (it's like an abattoir in here). And talcum powder bum prints ingrained in the bathroom door (it was a game with them).
Lovely, lovely song. :-)
@wobbiewobbit Feb 2022
aw sweet song. another perfect "uke song". love the harmony line. nice humanity in mundanity... a thing i very much enjoy writing too. touching song.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Ha ha listening comes to this off the back of me taking my electric toothbrush out of my mouth last night and getting sprayed in the eye with paste ;-)
I love your harmonies and the little story is perfect for a bright little uke tune. really beautiful little bouncy start to FAWM lovely
@roadreg Feb 2022
First off - you have a lovely voice! Very sweet song using the mundane to explore frustration and love. Plus I'm sure we're all united in the annoyance of toothpaste stains!
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
Lovely harmonies and I'm enjoying the strum. The chorus made me smile. Very cute lyric. "Low-ments" was a great descriptive word. You sing it like you fully know how quickly those ten years will pass.
@ayehahmur Feb 2022
What a lovely way to capture the frustrations and fears and rewards of parenthood all in one moment. It's instantly relatable and there's very much a wistfulness in the presentation - for some reason, solo uke always sounds like a lonely, melancholy instrument to me - which I think is perfect for this.
A great wee start to your month for sure!
@rwhosings Feb 2022
Awww, this is lovely! I did not expect the sweet nostalgia in the chorus, but I love it.
I think a ukulele is a great fit for this song, especially nice with the lower range vocals.
@jessi14 Feb 2022
I can tell from the lyrics how much you love your son! Thoughtful and witty!
@mikeb Feb 2022
A real 'LOL' on this one! A great uke song! I wonder if the spirit of the bridge will last through the teen years!
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
Cracking. Totally relatable lyrics and really nicely played/sung - the harmonies are particularly superb.
‘low-ments’ is an excellent word.
@porrectus Feb 2022
I really like the harmony. The lyrics are really touching and true. Mine is paper towels left half used on the counter.
@tseaver Feb 2022
Nice write! The ambiguity of the story (parent/child vs. partners, for instance) really makes the song universal. The harmonies are really lovely.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
I love this. Just so snapshot in time of toothpaste. Nice harmonies!
And @jimdgreen, you definitely need to get your ukulele out today!
@jimdgreen Feb 2022
Now, thinking I need to get the uke, out. This is sweet, and that’s kinda the point!
@ekin Feb 2022
This is playful, fun and catchy! I can see my mom singing “You do your best, you do your worst. How long til this is done?” to me since I am in fact a pain in the ass to my mother sometimes. The chorus and the bridge were my fav parts. I can imagine myself writing a song like this when I have children. I guess we all turn turn into our mothers eventually?
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
low-ments is great!
This is really endearing. Mad about the stains, but knowing they'll also be a great memory.
The uke and all the harmonies sound really nice as well! Great kickoff to get your fawm rolling!
@thefuneralcrasher Feb 2022
Yay! Great to get off the mark. I hope to do it soon Lovely song…ps they’ll be gone before you know it…
