Feb 2022 chooseyourownadventure orchestral score story fantasy
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!
For this FAWM, I've decided to make a score to a film/story that hasn't been written. This is because YOU will decide where the story will go and how it will eventually end. After each song, I will give you options for your "Choose Your Own Adventure" story. Write your option in the comment section. I will wait about 8 hours or so, calculate the numbers, then create the next song that fits this option. After each song is posted, I start the process all over again until FAWM and the story is over.
Are you ready for an adventure?
********
Intro:
You wake up on the cold, wet ground in a dimly-lit space. You blink, give your eyes a minute to adjust, then stand up. You can see now that you are far back inside some kind of cave. You're wearing a thin shirt that's torn at the sleeve and, it's so cold, you can feel yourself shivering. Something moist is dripping from your hand and you realize that it's blood. Your blood.
"Must have cut myself," you mutter.
You can't remember how you got here and you can't say for certain how long you've been inside. Ahead, a thin beam of light pierces through a pile of jagged rocks, illuminating a small pool of water. You go to the water and stare at your reflection, trying to remember what happened.
In the water, a tired, dirty face stares back at you. It is the face of:
A) An old man
B) A young woman

Intriguing and engaging music. It feels epic, but also mysterious. Love the distant-sounding vocal. Beautiful orchestral music!
@liz561 Mar 2022
This concept took me back to college and my days/nights playing Dungeons and Dragons. Too bad we didn't have such great music back then to accompany our adventures!!
@ampersandman Feb 2022
This concept is fantastic, as is this score. So melodic and pro sounding at the same time.
@popmythology Feb 2022
Oh, man, what a concept!!! I can always rely on the amazing Ryako to deliver the nerdy goods. Loved this intro, have made my choice, and will come back after work to see what happens next in my adventure!!! :D
@pianoonthepatio Feb 2022
I'm not listening to this in order when I'm supposed to but amazing music! Ready for uncovering the mystery or the universe. This sounds like box office material music. I love that you're involving people in the thought process, and direction of where the story & music goes. Can't wait to hear more!!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
Too late to vote, but the score is sublime. I'm learning at your feet, maestro. :-)
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
I missed voting, but I love the idea and the track is so well produced and makes me feel it's coming from the big screen.
@theawkwardsleep Feb 2022
An old man of course.
Such a BRILLIANT idea.
This is epic. I love a tune that evokes a feeling so profoundly. It tells such a story. Great stuff
@hcb Feb 2022
a) is our vote please!
Looking forward to the rest….!
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
Wow, this is really epic! Excellent work, even though I expect no less after hearing your score for Metropolis, I'm still blown away.
@wobbiewobbit Feb 2022
i love this idea so much! and you are rocking it already.. those strings! sounds fantastic (excuse the pun) btw i think i am too late but i would choose A.
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
What a cool concept. Just as the music drops us into an unknown place with its atmosphere of another world, so does your story idea. I'm probably too late, but I choose Option A.
@tonyr Feb 2022
Fantastic project. Extraordinary atmosphere.
B.
@pooka Feb 2022
Since I always play as a female character when given the choice, I'm going for:
B) A young woman
I'm also interested to see where you're/we're going with this!
@wrenarcher Feb 2022
Wow. This is amazing.
Following this to see where the story goes because the opening scene has me hooked and the music is stunning!
just in case you haven't tallied it up yet...
Mark me down for B) a young woman
@carleybaer Feb 2022
Ok I'm coming along for this! Wow, this is so evocative, I can see the sweeping landscape shots over the forests and mountains as the intro credits roll. Amazing. I choose A.
@sapient Feb 2022
Blimey.
What a wonderful way to chart a course through February.
As adforperu said, only you could do something like this... And I am WITH YOU for the ride :D
Gods, but this is good. What an opening. Utterly cinematic.
I'm really torn as to which choice to make, but I'm going with A, partly because there never seem to be enough old people in stories. Or maybe that's just Netflix for ya... ;)
@headfirstonly Feb 2022
I was sold at that initial monster drum hit, but then the cello arrives (and you know just how much love I have for the Tina Guo cello library, which this unmistakeably is) and the trademark Ryako ethereal vocals roll in, and I'm away. Fantastic opener—my god, this has serious heft.
And I vote for B.
@adforperu Feb 2022
Your FAWM journey will be dictated by a choose your own adventure? Only you, Mel, only you.
Such a gorgeous an enticing opening to this story, those strings are so very cinematic; have you ever thought about doing scores? (if I could post emojis, it's be the little cheeky look to the side chap). The distant vocals are beautiful too, I can't wait to hear more. I'm going to go with B so you don't have to do an impression of a bloke for the next month.
@emplate Feb 2022
Well, this is great. Your stuff has always been very cinematic, so it doesn't surprise this works like that as well. Very mysterious atmosphere.
@jacobeverettwallace Feb 2022
This is an awesome idea! Love how creative you are. I felt immediately transported to some kind of movie scene. That lightly incessant rhythmic beat really sets the stage. I've gotta go with A on this one.
@celineellis Feb 2022
holy cow bells - i LOVE this concept!!! and what a triumphant piece stand alone but i want to know the story - A an old man!!
@jtsteam Feb 2022
I love this idea. This song certainly sets the scene for a thrilling story. It's got to be A, the old man must have quite a story to tell.
@tawny249 Feb 2022
Oh, this is cool. Love the layers of percussion, sounds like top-tier video game music. Definitely a cave, I can hear it in the dripping water (the high notes). Let's go with A, old man. Curious to see how this goes!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Im old enough to remember those type if books coming out! Always liked the concept, if delivery has sometimes been a bit sketchy! Interesting to see how it goes musically. Good solid opening. Im going man (as i just wrote a song about an old sage who was make). Nice stuff
@beat Feb 2022
A meeting B in the waters reflection (Orlando style kind of…)
@doggolito Feb 2022
Played 2 games to see how it fits in. I can confirm it fits in well with Dragon Age : Inquisition and Hand of Fate. Pretty sure it can fits in well in the Syphon Filter series too, especially with the drums that give that extra spice
Love the concept as well !
B
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
I always look forward to what you do each year, and this is such a great concept! There's such anticipation in this Intro, with your usual big production values. Epic adventure awaits!
I like the idea of B - a young woman...
@bassman10 Feb 2022
An old man. Because I am one.
@leepat Feb 2022
an old man!
(excited)
@kissinginpublic Feb 2022
What an amazing idea! The intro really sets the scene for what’s to come… whatever that turns out to be! I will go A, please :)
