@geoff61 @davidtaro @katestantonsings
David says:
"Kate sent me an incredible piano and vocal, and it was a real pleasure to build an arrangement around it. Mainly because I got to fiddle about with echo and chorus pedals, and some weird synths. That's my happy place, right there. Hope you enjoy the results!"
Kate says:
"Geoff sent me the lyrics and I immediately sat at the piano to sing the painful story as a song. I'm so grateful to David and Geoff for collaborating with me! This is one my favorites I've been a part of. I love how it turned out!"
BUCKETS FULL OF WISDOM by Geoff Matthews @geoff61
VERSE
I’ve got buckets full of wisdom
And pictures in my cell
I’ve told so many lies and truths
It’s difficult to tell..
Which ones are from the river
Which ones are from the well
Which ones are from the nebula
The tempered truth, the living hell.
CHORUS
Now I’m doing precious time
With soliloquys to fit my crimes
And I’m OK with that
Cos I’m ten years from redemption
And fifty from the crib
No one knows the reasons why
I kept the darkness hid.
MIDDLE
We’re twisted chattels now
Got open wounds anyhow
From a poisoned chalice
A broken cup
A wooden spoon
So out of touch
Forsaken by a winter’s chill
But that don’t countenance the ills
All the errors and the sin
So here’s my cell
Come on in.
VERSE
I’ve got a buckets full of wisdom
And scratch marks on the wall
I’ve told so many lies and truths
It’s hard now to recall
Which ones are from the desert
Which ones are from the sun
Which ones are from the very core
The bitter heart, the childhood shun.
CHORUS
Now I’m doing precious time
With soliloquys to fit my crimes
And I’m OK with that
Cos I’m ten years from redemption
And fifty from the crib
No one knows the reasons why
I kept the darkness hid.
That my father was a roller
And my mother was a peach
They scattered all their children wide
Yeah one by one,
All out of reach.
@berni1954 Mar 2022
Powerful lyrics and a fine soulful arrangement and vocal.
What a portrait in song of this redemptive criminal!
@nancycunning Mar 2022
Wow. This is a pretty spectacular midlife crisis song. I love the concrete images and the emotion and the beautiful singing. Great collaboration.
@whispermouse Mar 2022
Great arrangement, fantastic performances. Somehow the initial a cappella vocal made me think this was going to open up into a modern pop song with a 4-on-the-floor 808 kick, etc. I REALLY like the more soulful form this takes, it fits the lyric perfectly. Some of these lyrics are just killer, I can imagine people singing along with "That my father was a roller / And my mother was a peach" in the car for sure.
@greengrassgirl Mar 2022
This one has all the ingredients. Great lyrics from Geoff, Kate's perfect piano melody and magical vocals and David's superb arrangements! Listening to talent like this is MY happy place!
@kenficara Feb 2022
These vocals are so powerful, and you have the sense that there’s a whole lifetime of story behind this. The ending hand claps and double vocal are halfway between church and a dirty river. Love it.
@srcoops Feb 2022
Beautiful work. Thanks for your kind comments on daughter.
@jayjay Feb 2022
This is a truly wonderful collaboration and a great piece of storytelling #tit4tat
@arthurrossi Feb 2022
The melody is so lovely and suits these great words wonderfully. I like all these down-to-earth imagery in the lyrics, and the chorus is very powerful - music- and lyric-wise. Awesome arrangement and presentation, great work of both of you!
@danvaillancourt Feb 2022
Wow! Great gospel vocal and perfect arrangement. Lots of great lines. Really nice all around!
@bandybum Feb 2022
What a fabulous lyric, delivered in stunning style. Simply awesome, guys :)
@siebass Feb 2022
Great vocal take here, with a really interesting progression to support. Very warm full arrangement with the organs, and bassline. Great chorus lines, ten years from redemption and fifty from the crib. Surprisingly warm exploration of the darknesses that we keep. Dig the breakdown and claps for the finish.
@greengrassgirl Feb 2022
This is great! All of you at your best! What a pleasure to listen to this!
@hamiltonpoolhall Feb 2022
ok, I'll be back when I can actually listen, too, but these lyrics...so yes. "ten years from redemption/and fifty from the crib." If I'm not very much mistaken, that's the kind of writing we're all waiting around to hear and, if we get lucky, actually come up with.
@hbusse Feb 2022
Oo, slow soul and richly produced! This lyric caught me: “Cos I’m ten years from redemption
And fifty from the crib”. So many great moments in the vocal performance too, with those little breathy grace notes and bluesy slides.
@ferry0123 Feb 2022
Wow, it's a joy to listen to this. So many things to like. Like how the beat is dominating the tempo (duh) of the song and everything else follows. And how it gets gospel at the point the clapping starts. The way Kate sings 'Which ones'.. Yes, this is a beauty.
@oswlek Feb 2022
This is absolutely fabulous. Kate's voice grabs me right away and the chord choices are just so soulful. It's a perfect harmony/melody/lyric marriage. The scene, the mood, the images...... it's all on point.
David's arrangement is lush and full, but never knows exactly what it is supposed to do. It fills in every crack, but never gets in the way of featuring Kate's vocal. To the contrary, the musical bed lifts it and makes the performance feel all the more emotional.
I like how Geoff's lyrics are full of evocative imagery, and paints a clearly troubled picture, but never really spills the beans on what exactly happened. It's just the right amount of story and room for imagination.
Stellar work, everyone!
@djevans53 Feb 2022
Wow! so beautiful.
@seppo Feb 2022
Oh, I love this.
@mctown Feb 2022

@caitlin Feb 2022
Ooh! Gospel!! Kate, your vocals are stunning as always - I love this genre for you! This whole arrangement is extraordinary.
@crisp1 Feb 2022
I've heard so many great songs already I was beginning to think there couldn't possibly be any more, but this one proves me wrong. An incredible lyric, an amazing melody and vocal performance, and fantastic production. Dang! A masterpiece!
@zeekle1998 Feb 2022
This is what happens when talents collide. Just amazing, vocals, music and lyrics. Some lovely little bass runs too. It has power and passion. Total awesomeness.
@wolfkier Feb 2022
Awesome stuff, all of you together, hitting on all cylinders!
Lush and moving,
scratch marks on the wall <= killer! The lyric, vocal, and accompaniment all paints a vivid portrait!
Really enjoyed my "experience" with this. And great to see/hear you all FAWMing this year!
@brisk Feb 2022
This sounds great. I felt like there were some moderately weird chord choices going on at times, and that really made me sit up and take notice.
The sweet voice and the tale of sordid prison woe sit really well together.
Liked the arrangement choices - the army of handclaps for example.
This one was really nice.
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
What a great collaboration, all. Kate's piano and gently soulful voice interprets Geoff's lyrics so well, and David's arrangement just takes it over the top. That last verse with the handclaps is perfection.
@gm7 Feb 2022
Those opening lines and chords...so powerful and had me locked it for the entire song. Super cool ending. Great collab you two!
@eas3637 Feb 2022
Fabulous collaboration! The arrangement, lyrics, and vocals come together so seamlessly.
@srcoops Feb 2022
Very nice. Words and music are interesting and presented beautifully.
@djtjb Feb 2022
Jeez you guys just absolutely killed this one! Especially love the super gospel-ly clap breakdown towards the end. Great collab all!
@jerrypettit Feb 2022
Nice job, you guys! Great lyrics that inspired Kate--and her voice ALWAYS inspires a great arrangement. Very, very nicely produced.
Do more collaborations!!
@themelgoexperience Feb 2022
Great collab---Kate what a voice! Nice work all around folks.
@gammafied Feb 2022
WOW. The lyrics, the building intro, the arrangement, - a total package. I love the claps. My favorite part musically is the Which ones section. Lyrically, I like redemption/crib, chill/ills, soliloquys, and roller/peach.
@geoff61 Feb 2022
Kate you should be able to add me as a collaborator in the appropriate box, I see @davidtaro is now showing as a collaborator
@ayehahmur Feb 2022
What a lovely, lovely, lovely collaboration from you all! Great vocal, and what a wonderful lush, spacious arrangement. I was hoping there'd be handclaps at some point, and I wasn't disappointed. Really good stuff.
@geoff61 Feb 2022
wow, fab job guys, a wonderful vocal line on a quite complex lyric (sorry about that that's just how it goes sometimes).
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
How could I resist listening to you three? And then, Wow! You knocked me off my chair from the first note! And then the harmony kicks in, adding to the richness. Really cool storytelling. This is an awesome collab!
@allaboutgeorge Feb 2022
Quality work!
@robynmackenzie Feb 2022
Soulful and emotive. I just love when those drums come in. Kate's voice captures the delicacy of the lyrics perfectly, and the arrangement evokes strong emotion. Awesome collab, y'all!
@wacha Feb 2022
Wow, this is an incredible collaboration! @geoff61 wrote powerful lyrics, @katestantonsings did a great job on the vocals and piano for @davidtaro to build a cinematic feeling song around. I love the laid back, bluesy feel to this. It feels like something that would be on album of alternate and live takes, I mean it feels like you were all working together on the fly and created this amazing song which I adore.
@nuno Feb 2022
What a great collaboration to kick off with. Great lyrics from Geoff, Kate's beautiful voice and piano, and David pulling it all together with a great arrangement and a really fine mix. Beautiful.
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
This tore me apart. It was rainy today now it’s snowy…this fits my mood so well. Beautiful performances all around and the arrangement is delicious. Lyrics are top notch. Mega collab!!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Wow, just wow. Impressive on all levels. @katestantonsings, your singing is just wonderful. @davidtaro amazing work here.
Damn, you've shown how much work I need to do!
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
This is all kinds of lovely! Lyrically strong, beautifully sung, played and produced. Bucketful of bonus points for the last verse with the hand claps. Just awesome.
@richaaaay Feb 2022
My oh my...This is out of this world fantastic. Kate, your vocals are so soulful and perfect for Geoff's lyrics. DT, production like no other. So good. I hear those tasty guitar licks and those vocal harmonies just kick'n it up. So wonderful all around....And it's only Day 2!!! Holy smokes, I'm gonna buckle myself in...
@sunnymae Feb 2022
Wha!!!!!! You Guys kicked it outta the park!!! I'm blown away by this collab. Vocals, lyrics and Davids luscious arrangements rocked it.
Bravo team. :0)
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Ive pressed play and i just know its going to be great! Yup here comes Kate! Its a good lyric and all those little touches tick every box, including those subtle backing vocals. Classic stuff !
@andrea Feb 2022
Amazing! You guys can do so many different styles and they all sound incredible. You make these wonderful lyrics come alive.
@tawny249 Feb 2022
Beautiful vocals and great storytelling lyrics. I like the use of repetition, and some neat slang in there to make it feel real. Solid.
@driftwood1 Feb 2022
Well that was awesome. Excellent lyric and performance, good production, this one hits on all cylinders.
@serene123 Feb 2022
Warm uplifting song. Beautiful soaring vocals from Kate and David has done a great job with the arrangement. Loved 'Now I’m doing precious time
With soliloquys to fit my crimes'
@pumpkinhead Feb 2022
This is solid! Beautiful emotional vocals to great lyrics along with a just right production. I love FAWM. Peace
@n24 Feb 2022
I’m loving the vocals @katestantonsings and the heavy reverb on the guitar is super mellow. Absolutely cracking breakdown at the end there as well, both the lyrics and stripped back sound and claps. I Love it, they tell a story all on their own those last 5 lines!
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
This just sounds amazing. Really grabbed the essense of an old gospel tune and modernized it. Great work all around here! Grabbed me from the start, but that last time through the chorus with the claps and extra vocals was breathtaking.
@nadine Feb 2022
Kate and David use the hashtag #gospel? This is illuminating and bluesy of a different kind. Production and vocals are top notch. I love the vocal layering parts. You guys nail everything! Great interpretation of the masterful lyrics. I love that!
@halfwayhome Feb 2022
Epic masterpiece. Absolutely in love with the section from 1:11 - a gentle step away from the main arrangement, but somehow makes the return back to the main chord progression even better - your voice is so strong here.
