Gwyn....I was very pleased to receive these fine lyrics from the inestimably talented @billwhite51...great to write with Bill again!
Bill.....aft er i heard what gwyn did with my lyric, i made some iced tea, went out on the balcony, plopped down in my porch swing, and listened to it five or six more times.
Turn off the television
Close my eyes
Show myself pictures of previous times
Listen to the songs
Of the crickets and birds
Try to do some thinking without words
You heard the door open and close
Don’t look out the window
Nobody is there
Turn around my dear
I’m right behind you
Rockin' in my rockin' chair
Count the bruises
And broken bones
Words that hurt more than the stones
People who left
People who stayed
Debts outstanding and the ones marked paid
You heard the door open and close
Don’t look out the window
Nobody is there
Turn around my dear
I’m right behind you
Rockin' in my rockin' chair
The sun and the moon
Pass through clouds
Parties ‘til dawn, music too loud
Punches hard
Kisses soft
Drinks all around when the gloves come off
You heard the door open and close
Don’t look out the window
Nobody is there
Turn around my dear
I’m right behind you
Rockin' in my rockin' chair
Forgotten faces
Remembered names
In the end
It's all the same
What was here
Is no longer there
I keep on rockin'
In my rockin' chair
You heard the door open and close
Don’t look out the window
Nobody is there
Turn around my dear
I’m right behind you
Rockin' in my rockin' chair

Fine arrangement for these lyrics - waltz time is always good for songs that philosophise like this one does. Good collaboration!
@mikegtz Feb 2022
Well, the chorus is great for starters! Nice song with nice arrangement touches laced throughout!

I'm doing a collab with @billwhite51 next week--I've done one before and it came out great. His lyrics are always inspiring--and this one is no exception. Great job with the music and vocal, Gwyn--wish I could sing like that. Very nice collaboration, gentlemen!

What a great marriage of words, performance, and production. Everything fits so cohesively together into the nostalgic world of this rocking chair. Great bridge as well. I wouldn’t change a thing! Such a pleasure to hear a fully realized vision. Thank you!

Ooh a Gwyn-Bill collab! I read the title and lyrics and thought Rocking in My Rocking Chair would be an upbeat rockabilly number featuring someone jiving from their seat! Boy was I wrong. Lovely, entirely complete song that conjures much affection from the listener. Great prosody in a collab! Bravo!
@katestantonsings Feb 2022
This is one of those genuinely lovely songs that is so good all-around. The music, vocals, lyrics. Nice collab you two!!
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
This is so beautiful and poignant. Love everything about it. As usual David, great !
@mandolinda Feb 2022
This is by far, my most favorite song so far this FAWM.
@andrea Feb 2022
I am with others here; terrific lyrics that keep me thinking. The music and vocals sound great. I felt myself swaying as I listened. This is really nice all around.
@greengrassgirl Feb 2022
I really like this. Wonderful lyrics and I keep finding new meaning in them. The music and vocal are both great. Terrific collab, you two!
@wobbiewobbit Feb 2022
i have a rocking chair for all my computer activities and have adopted it as my thing - even had my artist friend do me an original painting to use.. anyway, love the rocking swing of the the waltz, very nostalgic stuff.
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
Nice job of the realization of the lyrics! Lyrically my favorite section was the "Punches hard / kisses soft"
@writeandwrong Feb 2022
What a poetic collaboration; matter-of-factly reflective; calmly, but intensely deep. Superb!!
@driftwood1 Feb 2022
Oh man this is a cool lyric. The more I ponder it the more meaning comes. Reminiscent of some of my favorite Nick Cave lyrics. And the groove of the waltz is perfect. Great feel throughout.
@stephenwordsmith Feb 2022
It's a rare feat to bring a set of lyrics so vividly to life like this. There's so much richness and depth - like you've been handed a pencil and notebook and somehow returned an oil painting. Everything conspires to immerse me in this, and the narrative voice - both in terms of lyrics and delivery - is so authentic that I feel like I'm there.
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
Lovely waltz! Great marriage of music, lyrics, vocals. Hard to believe it's a collab! Love this!
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Warm and wistful melody/arrangement and some beautiful words. There's a kind of rocking motion to the music which - if it's deliberate - is a little bit genius. Lovely song for the end of an evening.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
The title is so you guys! A style of yours i really like, lovely changes and a killer chorus. One of your best to my ear thats i have heard. Strong all around from each lyrical use to the last note. Bravo guys.
@kristi Feb 2022
I enjoyed the ebb and flow of this story and its music. So poignant. It's a quiet, meaningful story..."I keep rockin' in my rockin' chair" with all his memories and the images that the lines conjure up. The vocals are so gently delivered and expressive. Great collab!
@seanbrennan Feb 2022
So many little subtleties at the ends of phrases! Meanwhile, this mix is crisp and lets everything come through as needed. I can visualize this being played over a scene change in a Wes Anderson film. Wonderful collab, gents!
@cindyrella Feb 2022
This is so good you two! Tugs at my heart. I want more!
@mikeb Feb 2022
Sad and poignant lyrics, with catchy music and melody that leaves one with a wistful feeling of seeing the world pas by as one gets older.
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Bill and David Wilbury are Everly togetherly with a brilliant collaboration. This has such a classic, timeless vibe.
