Inspired by someone very close to me but also by all the people out there who are separated from music and I'm hoping they find their connection.
Maybe not a perfect recording, but now first one's done! Hurray!
Song in His Heart
He always had a song in his heart
Closed up tight in his heart
How he wished to set it free!
Always bound in his heart
He watched others sing their songs
He wanted to sing along
How he wished to set his voice free!
Longing to sing out strong
One day a ukulele came
A little ukulele came into his life
It brought Music Laughter Friendship Joy
Music Laughter Friendship Joy
Now he sings all day through
Writes out his songs for you
Pouring out into the world
Ukulele the key to his heart
One day a ukulele came
A little ukulele came into his life
It brought Music Laughter Friendship Joy
Music Laughter Friendship Joy

Beautiful Leslie. I love your voice. Like @analogj suggested it would be great to hear your voice louder than the ukulele. If you recorded on your smartphone then just make sure it's closer to your mouth than the uke. Hope you didn't mind me offering this tip. Love the song.

Leslie, this is lovely. But I have to say that if I didn't have the lyrics in front of me, I'm not sure I'd know all of the words that you were singing. I don't know if you might want to re-record this for posterior, I mean, posterity, but your ukulele sometimes drowns your voice out. But it is a SWEET song. I really love it. GREAT start to the month!!

I can so relate! I found the filk community instead of a ukulele. Delighted when others find their voice.

What a sweet tribute! Love the change up from the finger picked strumming to the strum patterns. Wonderful hook in the chorus

@liz561 I could have - but I have another song I'll post tomorrow that also has another body part! Thanks for the comment and yes, there was a key change!
@liz561 Feb 2022
Hey-you could have used this for the body part challenge too! I love how the picking gives the song such a wistful quality which contrasts with the joyful strumming once the narrator got the uke. And did I hear a key change????

What a lovely tune. Ukes are magic, I swear, they bring so much joy into the world.

Yeah, Leslie! This song is so poignant and the story is so clearly and compellingly told. I love the repeat of "Music Laughter Friendship Joy."

Great first song, and the sentiment is great. Liked what you did with the chords!
