Saw a Traditional Song challenge in the forum. I had this old poem lying around and gave it a go at a traditional melody. ️ Might make a sweet little fiddle tune some day.
The Sweetest Song in all the world
Beats from my Lover’s breast
And keeping time I hum along
With he my heart loves best
Tapping and tumbling
And marching in rhyme
all fluttering breath and light
The tune my lover’s heart does sing
A lullaby tonight
The sweetest song in all the world
Between two lips does lie
In harmony will rise and swell
Between my lover and I
In strong steady rhythm and melody
His lips and mine do dance
The tune betwixt our lips does ring
A witness to our romance
The sweetest song in all the world
Whispered against my lover’s brow
A promise made eternally
And given with a vow
In chorus round or solemn hymn
Our tender hearts be bound
The tune my true love and I do sing
A life shared in joyful sound
A life shared in joyful sound

Classic folk loveliness. Beautiful vocal. A lovely listen.

Nailed it. Certainly, seems like it could be 100 years old.

Nice change going into the Chorus, I do like the Chorus Lyrical variations... interesting approach

Well done for stepping out of your comfort zone. This sounds utterly timeless. Beautiful imagery and delivery.

@jlampson Ah man, thanks so much! It was fun to have a direction and run with it. I'm pleased with how it turned out, especially since I'm pretty meh at picking or strumming in waltz time.

I read the title and was like "okay, now you're just gaslighting me", but this was indeed a super-sweet song about the sweetest song.
I love your voice. It sounds effortless and pure, but is never boring. Great interpretation of a traditional song and I love that you were able to take a previous work and adapt it so readily and beautifully. I'd love to hear a future version with harmonies as well!
