Feb 2022 mandolin loud no-really all-the-pedals instrumental
My repsonse to https://fawm.org/songs/125937/ by @dragondreams
We dared each other to pick the instrument we'd been given as our avatar pics and feed them through "every pedal we own".
Happens that I have an electric mandolin, so GAME ON!
This doesn't feature all of my pedals, but it uses everything that's currently on my board:
First part:
Earthquaker Devices Rainbow Machine, Avalanche Run and Afterneath
Second part:
EHX Big Muff pi, Earthquaker Devices Data Corrupter and Meris Hedra, set to a 3-part harmony in Gm.
The same pedals are used for the bass sound, with the pitch of the take shifted down by an octave to make it sound a bit like a bass.
Over that:
Earthquaker Devices Data Corrupter (set to vibrate not glide), MXR Carbon Copy and Earthquaker Devices Transmisser
Then for the end, everything else comes in:
Ibanez Tube Screamer, KHDH LCFR, Red Panda Particle and a Montreal Assembly Count To 5.
At that point it starts to play itself, so I put the mandolin down and just started turning knobs to escape the chaos...

#tit4tat Now my mandolin has never sounded like this. Very interesting to think that it could in the right hands.
An interesting listen for me, I have no concept of what you used, but fascinated at the variations in sound.
@elesimo Feb 2022
This is epic, I love it! And I love that in the end you just turned knobs!
@airbagtester Feb 2022
Wow that is some epic shredding for someone playing a grandpa's guitars :D It sounds like an actual symphony!
@cblack Feb 2022
That was epic. The second part was absolutely mad. Loved it!
@helenseviltwin Feb 2022
I used to play mandolin in a punk band. It's a great sound with a bit of distortion. Or, indeed, as you show here, with ALL THE PEDALS!
@max Feb 2022
Only on FAWM.
hehe, a new genre I have to keep my eye on: #all-the-pedals
@negasi Feb 2022
Okay this wild chaotic and I love it. My favourite part starts at 1:02 where I cant not envision some kind of bird army fighting some kind of bird war. Oh man, mandolins rock!
@silvermachine Feb 2022
Started off like a gypsy Santa arriving then went sort of Russian Reindeer Metal. Then the giant squeaky toys started falling off the sleigh by the thousand! After that it got huge like Exodus and Moses parting the Red Sea, and then finally the spacecraft landed! Goodness gracious my room has gone rather quiet. It's over. How did you compress all that into 3 minutes.
@alyxanderjames Feb 2022
This is WILD, and I love it!
@gordon Feb 2022
Absolutely insanely fabulous!
@claycove Feb 2022
This is awesome! I love the chaos! Would not have guessed it's a mandolin :D Makes me want to dig out my Mandobird from the naphtalene!
@lcad Feb 2022
I did not know mandolins could sound like that :) this rocked. Wasn't expecting the heaviness when it picked up, really hits. Reminds me of Black Moon by Emerson Lake and Palmer. Really cool stuff, great work!
@pearlmanhattan Feb 2022
I could have used this song in traffic this morning! That's quite the composition! Well done!
@nadine Feb 2022
Wait, what - There is something like an electric mandolin? You're the first guy I know who can make a mandolin sound metal. It somehow has an oriental feel. We need more fuzz!!!
@dragondreams Feb 2022
Oh my God. You only went and did it! :-D
This is so many kinds of awesome!
I'm going to be checking news reports to see whether you actually managed to summon a demon.
We should form a band... ;-)
