Feb 2022 groundhog fuc baritone-ukulele folk
In Virginia, at least, we'll often see groundhogs up on their hind legs next to the road, seeming to enjoy the breeze from the passing traffic.
(c) 2022, Tres Seaver.
FAWM 2022 #1
Whistle pig stands at the side of the road,
Feeling the trucks blow by.
Who says he's scared of his shadow now?
He's anything but shy.
Fur blown back, he sways on his feet,
This daredevil pig just won't be beat.
Whistle pig stands at the side of the road,
Feeling the trucks blow by.
*whistle first two lines*
Fur blown back, he sways on his feet,
Never mind that ol' Piscatawny Pete,
Whistle pig stands at the side of the road,
Feeling the trucks blow by. I mean,
Feeling the trucks blow by.

I live in Virginia and I love the name Whistle Pig for the little chuck-chucks! I think I could friends with a whistle pig.
@paulroe Feb 2022
Cheerful and optimistic :-) This stands alone as a musical work and also belongs in some venue, some setting: cant place it at the moment but, if I do, I will return and follow up on this. Very nice
@conuladh Feb 2022
Great song...and a whistling solo - excellent ;D
@srcoops Feb 2022
This is a lot of fun. We never had one that could whistle.
@schuylerf Feb 2022
How enjoyable! This is a fun song that puts a smile on the listener's face.
@nancycunning Feb 2022
That whistling and the laid back bluesy take-it easy rhythm are just great. Oh, and the penny whistle at the end. Nice work.
@pippa Feb 2022
What a picture! Lovely. And a delightful song, what with your whistling and his whistling. Very cool, very creative.
@mosley Feb 2022
I’m a sucker for a song with some good whistling :-) real nice vibe and cool carefree style on this one!
@stuartbenbow Feb 2022
What a whimsical and charming tune. The whistling outro was the icing on the cake. Great imagery throughout, loved it.
@williamjames Feb 2022
Care free song captures the feeling of wind on the face nicely. Groundhogs actually do that? Do they survive this daredevil activity I wonder?
@chinacat Feb 2022
I was born on 2/2, love songs about "my" people :). The whistle verse is perfect
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
Poor, poor daredevil groundhog. This line of thinking leads to being ground meat. Fun take on the prompt!
@elainedimasi Feb 2022
The visuals remind me of the skateboarding dogs at Venice Beach. I feel sure now that the groundhogs could learn to do it.
@thetau Feb 2022
Sound more like a user name. You know @whistlepig, or @whispermouse, or even @screamingmeemee, I like @picalownote also
-Russ
@whispermouse Feb 2022
They are BRAVE, aren't they? There's one around here that just lies down stretched out in the sunshine, and will let me dogs get within INCHES before moving. Uke and whistle is a classic combo - nice song!
@mandolinda Feb 2022
We have Wiarton Willie close by us . Groundhog Day is always a fun celebration. Your varmint close to road might need shivers up Ray D. Opossum.
@mikeb Feb 2022
'Whistle pig' must be a Virginia thing!
Another fun banjo song!
@tuneslayer Feb 2022
Nice and simple. I definitely love me some baritone ukulele,
I had never heard the term "whistle pig" before. I don't think we have them out here in this part of the country. See, FAWM can be educational!
@erucaesounds Feb 2022
Love it! Didn't know they called them that...... entertaining and educational!!!!
@aflinner Feb 2022
This is great. I was unfamiliar with the term “whistle pig,” and the title intrigued me. Really like the honest, bare-bones feel of this, and that whistle section is great (and thematically appropriate). Lyrics conjure a very strong image for me…I can see him squinting, maybe from the wind, maybe in defiance. Good work! :-)
@dutch1967 Feb 2022
Oooh, that Whistle Pig... he'll never change.
@rubberbandage Feb 2022
I couldn’t help but smile through the whole song, even the piercing whistles at the end! So fun, I’m absolutely going to learn this as a perfect fit for my banjo-ukulele.
@lmr Feb 2022
Love the Whistling, so perfect! Love the chord changes at "Fur Blown back..." and the awesome ending! Perfect!
@gilhari Feb 2022
Very nice! Any song with whistling is always pleasing to me and puts my mind at ease. I didn’t know they were also called whistle pigs, and it’s use here superb all the way around as integrated into the song and in the method of singing and effects at the end.
@yewnorker Feb 2022
Didn't know they were called Whistle Pigs. This is a catchy little ditty. Reminds me of that joke. Why did the chicken cross the road? To show groundhogs it could be done. Enjoy your FAWM
@emkaydeebee Feb 2022
Oh this is superb! I can totally imagine singing this with a ukulele band of enthusiasts - it would raise so many smiles! 'Piscatawny Pete'? Ha ha, that ending is hilarious!
@timfatchen Feb 2022
That baritone uke sounds lovely, and it's a great tale of a non-scared critter. Although to begin with I almost reached for the rye. Of which I don't have but can get whistlepig (!)
[Now I've GOT to record (late) my #fuc #groundhogday song, it is writ.]
@makers8 Feb 2022
Such a great story ️ bravo!
@steer Feb 2022
This song has a real sweetness to it
@scubed Feb 2022
Ukulele blues and whistling - how delightful! Fun, fun lyrics and great laid-back delivery. Thoroughly enjoyed this!
When we lived in Atlanta we used to attend a house concert series called Whistle Pig.
@liz561 Feb 2022
Never heard the term Whistle Pig, but I love the whistling in the song!
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Not something we see here of course! But we know all about them. Ha. Cant beat a uke and a whistle, really cool song!
@boycetown Feb 2022
I have had a tough working day today and this song really made me smile - thanks.
@sml Feb 2022
Fun song. Love the whistle at the end.
@jeff9 Feb 2022
Very cleverly written. Solid lyrics and a really catchy melody. I didn't know what a whistle pig was either, but I love the term and the idea of this.
Might want to check your uke tuning which seemed slightly off to my ear.
@darcistrutt Feb 2022
Daredevil pig - Love it! Nice, relaxed feel for this Groundhog Day song. The ending had me giggling! Nicely done on the challenge!
@jaegerin Feb 2022
I love this! It has a great laid back vibe. I'm learning so much about groundhogs today, haha. Didn't know they were also called whistle pigs.
@toms Feb 2022
Good golly we have battles with the d*** whistle pigs here, they like to attack the foundations of my house. I have relocated dozens and dozens of them. Even so, I was pulling for this guy. :)
@lmr Feb 2022
Tseaver,
hey thinks for stopping by to listen, I think I may have things fixed if you ever want to give things a go again. Very simple with just uke and vocals. I totally want to hear "Whistle Pig" but for some reason I can't hear the audio tracks on the site right, I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong. Will stop back when I figure things out.
@siasa Feb 2022
I really like that! Nice old-timey feel to it done as is, but the basic structure means you could have a whole jug band playing it.
Look forward to hearing more!
@sherrylynnlee Feb 2022
This is really cute! I want to see the adorable music video for it :)
@spazsquatch Feb 2022
I've never heard a groundhog called a whistle-pig and was a little confused. That bit at the end cleared that up. It does make me wonder what prose whistling does a whistle pig whistle when a whistle pig whistles prose.
...anyway, love the song.
@brisk Feb 2022
I had a really good time with this one - it really raises a smile. Nice eye for "whistle pig" that's a priceless. Like the outro noises too. Really charming.
@elesimo Feb 2022
Haha, this is such a fun song! I adore the image you paint in the song, and now I want to see this... *rides a truck to Virginia*.
