Feb 2022 dark zoomland one-take
This is something which didn't used to be a thing, but now it is.
It was so nice to see you, it’s been such a while
You’re looking so well, and it saves on the air miles
So, tell me your story, we have all the time
You tell me yours, then I’ll tell you mine
I see you’ve been reading, by the books on the shelf
Are you telling the truth, or fooling yourself?
Is it all just for show, to impress those who call
Tell me your secrets, I want to know all
And your flat is so tidy, how do you find the time?
Like a page from a magazine, on interior design
Did you stage it yourself, did you get a helping hand?
Though you haven’t been out, your face is looking so tanned
Me? I’ve just stayed here, afraid to go out
I hear noises at night, the screams and the shouts
Inside I’m safe, and no one gets in
And no one can tell about the state that I’m in
We have mastered the art of fooling ourselves
Projecting an image, arranging our shelves
Everything’s perfect, who could want more
Sometimes I feel shallow, right to my core

Lots of insight on our times, with a great melody and vocals. Really well done.!

Oh, this is a great take on the current flat projections and the pull to examine other people's shelves and interiors and to project our own lovely lives, then that section about what's going on inside and late at night. The fade on the last syllable is uncomfortable in a good way. Great write and record.

I really like the perspective of this song -- it's very relatable for all of us who have been working from home. Great insights about the persona we project vs. who we actually are and how we're actually feeling.
