Feb 2022 fipplecore heavy instrumental recorder fipple fun funk improvisation
Why? Well, why not. ;-)
This started as a bit of banter twixt myself and the Master of Metal Mayhem, @sapient. His current avatar is a mandolin. I joked about it and he let me know that he has an electric mandolin and planned to push it through every effect he owns. I said I'd rise to the challenge and do the same with one of my recorders.
So, while this isn't *every* effect pedal I own, it IS my Dragondreams high-gain guitar rig. We have my gorgeous Moeck Rottenburgh tenor running into my home made chorus unit via the cheap eBay condenser mic, then the Hudsonics F'Watt, four watt valve amp with five gain stages, wound up to the max. Reverb is the Stone Voices Ambient VST and the whole thing was recorded in Reaper.
Other instruments are Steven Slate Drums, a soundfont clavinet, Dragondreams Black Diamond custom guitar, a couple of random VSTi synths, and my favourite Sire P7 PJ-bass clone.
I laid down the backing track with no idea what I was going to play. Then just jammed over the top of it.
Best played loud. And YES. The lead melody instrument is a tenor recorder!
@ahumburg Mar 2022
Just disgusting. Love it!
@ofishell Mar 2022
Fantastic! A rock/disco romp. As the kids would say, I'm here for it. And, holy moly, that recorder is HUGE (or the bass is very tiny)!
@abudabard12514 Feb 2022
TRAINING MONTAGE!!! This is peak training montage music, holy fazoli. It's got everything! That kid that was super skinny and bullied by more experienced martial arts wielding street punks will certainly be able to master all elements of fighting using the power of standing up for yourself if they listens to this while an otherwise unassuming elderly neighbor abusively teaches them the most advanced techniques and forms on their first weekend of training!
@pippa Feb 2022
I love your lyrics on this one, very powerful! And what a chunky thumpy funky jump-up-and-dance tune! Thanks.
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Very masterful. Quite unique sounding recorder.very fipple.
@iwilleatyou Feb 2022
Haha love the title. Let me see....Indian porn music? Whatever it fits to, it has that 70s groove which makes me want to watch Shaft.
@adforperu Feb 2022
Oh wow, that's pretty impressive, you've finally found the perfect bridge between a guitar and a synth, and it's a..... recorder. Obviously this song is all about that, but I really focussed on that killer bassline
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or relieved that this doesn't have lyrics. Either way, my auditory processor is overheating trying to map out everything going on here. Better to stop straining my brain and just dance to the funky groove.
@apdonn1982 Feb 2022
i'd cut a rug to this 'un
@heliosonorous Feb 2022
That was a great and creative use of the recorder!
@lvgd09 Feb 2022
Very cool I like it.
@mosley Feb 2022
Whoa that’s a hell of a sound out of a recorder! Haha awesome I love it
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
Hah! You good sir are amazing. I never thought I would be rocking out to a recorder solo, that I actually really enjoyed and wasn't just impressed with the playing/tone of/whatnot. This would of been really nice no matter the instrument used, the fact I'm hearing the breathy notes instead of finger/pick harmonics from a guitar, or key clacks or hammers from piano or whatever..... in all the little spaces in between notes just makes me appreciate this even more. Bravo!
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
This is amazing, the production is awesome, just ear candy, can't stop tapping my foot!
@airbagtester Feb 2022
I could go for an album's worth of this! The effects on the recorder make me think of 8-bit music - I think because your playing is so precise. It's a good contrast with the bass guitar. Really good pairing of sounds.
@fonte Feb 2022
Coolest recorder solo EVER! Er....lol
I mean, also hello that BASS!! The whole thing actually. I would like to make toast to this all day.
@audrey Feb 2022
Very cool! Easy to groove to. I really enjoyed this one. So glad you provide us with such great music year after year. Thanks. :)
@judypie Feb 2022
Fippling wonderful! Like being at a really hardcore faerie rave!
@grenzgaengerin Feb 2022
Great stuff....groovy
@fuzzy Feb 2022
A recorder, huh?
I remember learning to play one of those suckers in grade six, but mine never sounded like this.
Lovely jazzy fusion here for sure.
I always enjoy your tunes.
@gammafied Feb 2022
I think my face is melted. From the gate busting intro to the thumping bass line, this piece is rocking. I love that ending!
@beat Feb 2022
You can’t own to many fx‘s! Great tune. Am very happy to be round here in February! Thx for the music!
@dreamscuba Feb 2022
Oh my god... this is superb... this recorder is the bollox! I really dig the funky vibe with the Santana tones on the recorder.. Nice one!
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Tight and tasty. Would never think the lead melody was a recorder. Crazy...
@frey Feb 2022
A RECORDER?! So groovy.
@sapient Feb 2022
Bloody hell. That is perfect! :D
There is no way on earth anyone would have guessed that it was a recorder.
Just not.
Uh-uh.
Did you do it by reamping the recorder track through the effects, or did you just mic it up and let rip?
Oh and challenge ACCEPTED :D :D :D
@cblack Feb 2022
That recorder is on drugs. Good drugs. Really interesting stuff!
Nice little jam here. :)
@lowhum Feb 2022
nice mixo vibe jam. great Stevie wonder sounds in the back track.
@timfatchen Feb 2022
nonono the recorder is the solo instrument over the top, it's NOT a clavinet patch...is it? All right, so I should try my sopranino through Guitar Rig??
Remarkable.
Madmen, you and @sapient both.
@wylddandelyon Feb 2022
This is fun.
@hornesgiftshop Feb 2022
Can't beat a clavinet patch. Nice to see the villains heading off down the M5 to the farmhouse in Somerset with the loot. Little do they know that DI Robbin and DS Banks are in pursuit.
