Feb 2022 lofi shoegaze indie-rock alternative dreampop
welcome to my first song of 2022
i told myself i'd try to challenge myself and do something different this year, but lol. this is very much in the wheelhouse of "what i always do"
lyrics were basically an afterthought, and after a while I began to not really like this on the whole that much so I'm deciding to call it done now
i'm a novel
falling off of the shelf
i'm escaping
i'm denying myself
all the things i
really wanted to have
out of picture
out of mind and out of sight

Great, this is some wonderful shoegaze sound and melody. I aimed to go in that direction, but I somehow fell back onto my usual style. Takes a certain sense of melody to really nail the genre. To hear what you did there is very inspirational.

I mean, when "what you always do" is this good, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Love this thick dreamy shoegaze and that driving guitar pushing it along, and those faraway vocals. The spare, evocative lyrics work really great with this, too.
@elainedimasi Feb 2022
Aaaaaah this reminds me of all the things I love about indie dreamy shoegaze. The lo-fi version of the 8ths note figure up top chiming away drives this forward with crystals. Also loving the gauzy vocals and the words themselves are really fine. I Love "a novel falling off a shelf" because it's a NOUN, you know, gives me something to look at and not just "oh I feel like this".
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
Came here after seeing a comment you put on one of Vom's songs, saying it reminded you of you. I love his songs, so wanted to hear yours. I am not disappointed! This is superb. Lovely shoegaze-y feel here - puts me right in the MBV/Slowdive/Chapterhouse area, which is right up my street. Can't think of anything to say, other than, this is excellent.
@lcad Feb 2022
Cool and dreamy, the vocals are really nice, I wouldn't mind hearing them a bit louder in the mix. Washes over you for sure, smooth and energizing.
@bootlegger Feb 2022
Definitely does the gazey dreampop things really well. Really driving. Love that. The vocals are so great. A standout for me this year among what I've heard. Yes.
@owl Feb 2022
This is awesomely dreamy and shoegazey, the bass defines the groove nicely so you can let everything else wash over you in a sea of noise. Love it!
@nahlej381 Feb 2022
I LOVE it!!!! If you’re interested in a collab please hit me up. I’d even love to just mix a track for ya. I sense some similar influences
@kissinginpublic Feb 2022
Argh! Love the shoegazery vibes all over this. So warm and fuzzy! Great work.
@shortdan Feb 2022
Hypnotic, atmospheric, very cool indeed. Loving the heavy layering of the mix. Really enjoyed this one :)
@gammafied Feb 2022
Nice groove! Makes me want sway with my hands high. The driving guitars and those cymbals send me on a frolic through the meadow.
@standup Feb 2022
I like the sound of the vocal, like it’s distant and reaching us through a hall full of fans.
Fun sound, fun guitars, lots to like here.
@balancelost Feb 2022
I like your wheelhouse very much so this tune pleases me. It actually sounds like you've gone up a notch of fidelity. New drum set? Sounds great. Your melodies buried under huge guitars are sublime as always. Really enjoy this one. Hooky as heck.
@adforperu Feb 2022
There's a very pleasing white noise sort of sound coming from those cymbals I think. The shimmering guitars are pretty hypnotic how those two guitar notes go back and forth. Big fan of musicians that have a hooky vocal and try their best to bury it (MBV et al). Having said that, it's really great when it's pushed forward in the second verse.
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
Listening to this I really wanted to go on a long drive and see the world, it just has that feel to it. Which I should be clear is a really good thing. Great start.
@celineellis Feb 2022
same but different! agree with Vom, that constant two note ish riff in the background is really cuts through. proper dreamy vocal treatment and fade out ending! I love a fade!
@lowhum Feb 2022
Great stuff. Reminds me a bit of Cocteau Twins - hope that's good, yeh? I'd like to hear what is this different from!
@vegansongs Feb 2022
Ooooooh. Excellent..This what I needed to hear as I drift off...the shelf myself.
Happy fawming.
@thelowestbitter Feb 2022
Ciiiiircleee! This is great as always, the struggle to try not to sound like you always sound is very relatable, but on the plus side it’s a great sound! Love how hazy and gazey this is, especially the effects on the vocals. Really like that two note guitar line cutting through it too. Off to a good start!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Relate EXTREMELY hard to "definitely going to try something different... oh it came out the same". Always love your stuff though so no complaints here! This is really great, that insistent two note riff drives things on while the waves of shoegazy noise spiral around it, and those vox are so ethereal and pretty. Killer start! Toying with the idea of adding "you've gone full circle!" to every comment on one of your songs this year but that'd probably be quite annoying wouldn't it?
