Feb 2022 rock 90s rock guitars
I was listening to Siamese Dream last week and so I wanted to make a Smashing Pumpkins type song. Lyrically I wanted to be ambiguous and cryptic like Billy's lyrics often are. I even tried to sing like Billy. Haha.
My guitar chops are so rusty I can't shred like I want. The verses sound like the Pumpkins but the chorus reminds me of Sunny Day Real Estate.
This one got away from me but I wanted to finish it and get the first one out of the way.
Verse 1
Thinking of a way to live
Where it’s easy to forgive
Getting caught by weaker eyes
Getting stabbed by rusty knives
Freezing oceans stop my heart
Barely see a distant spark
Shake the sand from all your clothes
Walk until the morning goes
Verse 2
Moving to a warmer sea
Inhale all that I can breathe
Where’s the limit where’s the edge
Where’s the place of perfect rest
For the moment feel the pain
Burning up the inner flame
Letting go of what I knew
Letting go into this move
Chorus
Going deeper into love
Breathe the air into my lungs
Came here only to have fun
Getting closer to the sun
Verse 3
There will never be enough
Limited in this construct
Every beat it gets so close
Searching on a future mode
Feel the sweat come from the heat
Disappear into the steam
Letting everything get still
Letting go of all the guilt

The breakdown rocks.

Oh yeah... love the bass, the guitars, the vocals. Solid rock song!

This SLAYS modern day rock. There's so much life and character, very much contrary to what you would find today in the genre (or at least on the radio)

I'm all in for a pumpkin mush. Moving’n‘Rocking. Very good mixdown as the Zildjian Ring out. Luv it. Thx.

So enjoyably 90s! The drums have a bit of a MBV feel to them and your rusty guitar chops are sounding fine to me!

I love the dirty bass line and this but better than this. This is totally the sort of Indie rock song i used to rock out to at liverpool uni. Has a huge feel to it and dang great solo dude

Mission accomplished. I like the delivery.

Loads of energy from those massive drums and the driving bass line. Love the way you switch from the grungey riffy verse to the more anthemic chorus. And that solo sounded pretty damn fine to me, shredding or no shredding ;)

NINETIES! YAAAASSSS. This hooked me immediately. You nailed those Pumpkins and those 90's vibes. I'm really enjoying the chord choices and harmonies you've put together. Awesome way to kick off FAWM!

I loved this. I knew we would be good friends as soon as you mentioned wanting to write a Pumpkins song. I love the way this builds into the second chorus. Those vocal harmonies are really spacious! Keep it up! I'll see if we can Jimmy Chamberlin to collaborate with us in the meantime. Fingers crossed!
