Fossegrim, also known as Grim or Strömkarlen, is a water sprite or troll in Scandinavian folklore. Fossegrim plays the fiddle, especially the Hardanger fiddle.
He is described as an exceptionally talented fiddler: the sounds of forest, wind and water play over his fiddle strings.
Do you have any ideas So I would be very happy about a collaboration - Be free ;)
Ein anmutiges Wesen
es tanzte zum Bach
gelockt, rote Haare
dicht ward das Blätterdach
Sie hörte liebliche
betörende Melodie
moosbedeckte Steine
verfiel sie der tiefen Magie
Oh, Fossegrim,
Du Geigenspieler
Du nahmst sie mir
mit sanfter Gewalt
Oh Fossegrim,
Du Magieweber
In die Arme des Wassers
ihr Körper nun kalt.
Sie stieg in das Wasser
die rosige Haut
ward fahl und bleich
sie ward meine Braut
Nicht für Dich
Du hast nur gelacht
Nicht für Deine Verführungskunst
Zogst sie in Deinen Bach
Oh Fossegrim
ich schenk dir mein Lamm
ich schenk dir die Milch
und auch den Honig
Oh Fossegrim,
könnt ich sie nur sehen
streicheln ihr Haar
in meinem Arm halten
Mit Tränen lief ich
zum Hause zurück
leer stand es da
versiegt ist mein Glück
Oh, Fossegrim,
Du Geigenspieler
Du nahmst sie mir
mit sanfter Gewalt
Oh Fossegrim,
Du Magieweber
Meine Arme im Wasser
ihr Körper nun kalt.
translation:
A graceful being
it danced to the brook
curly, red hair
the leafy roof was tight
She heard lovely
beguiling melody
moss-covered stones
she fell for the deep magic
O Fossegrim,
You fiddler
you took her from me
with gentle force
O Fossegrim,
You magic weaver
Into the arms of the water
her body cold now.
She got into the water
the rosy skin
became sallow and pale
she became my bride
Not for you
you just laughed
Not for your art of seduction
You drew them into your creek
Oh Fossegrim
I give you my lamb
I'll give you the milk
and also the honey
O Fossegrim,
Can I just see her
caress her hair
hold in my arms
I ran with tears
back to home
it stood empty
my happiness is gone
O Fossegrim,
You fiddler
you took her from me
with gentle force
O Fossegrim,
You magic weaver
my arms in the water
her body cold now.

What an interesting tale! But I don’t like that fiddler. I should have known there would be one word in German for art of seduction! Maybe my German will be better next year and I will appreciate your lyrics even more.

OK I did the song! Could you send me an email to toni(dot)a(dot)hatakka(at)gmail(dot)com so we can collab further? :)

Really good imagery and folk story telling, it brought to my mind The Water Goblin by Dvorak and some of the sounds to that piece.

I love mythical creatures and lore! Let's find music to sing this story.
