This song was written in response to @rayboneor 's clever love song from the view of your car's extended warranty, so for best effect, please go there first if you haven't already:

I kind of figured I would write a response a la The Real Roxanne, which spawned dozens of other responses by the way(hint hint), and flesh out the history of this relationship a bit.
And to be clear, this is done with total love and respect for the originator here. I am listing him as a collab because although we didn't plan this and he has no idea it's about to pop up in his collabs, I wholesale stole the chord progression, instrumentation choices, large chunks of the melody and piggybacked off the concept so I feel it's only fair. Danny, if you want me to remove the collab, just say the word.
And to think this all started because I loved his use of the phrase "oh sakes alive". Hope you enjoy.
"Oh sakes alive"
Would you listen to yourself?
You sound like my dear old granny- she's 90!
Oh yes, I'll be so bold,
and if that's not enough.
I know all about that new number you got,
And I know it's you when I don't pick up
Stop calling me!
You're not in love,
you're just drunk right now
yeah, you had too much
I really loved you once,
but those days are long gone.
And this is beneath you, honey.
Don't go worrying about me.
I was once young and foolish,
but now we're both free.
I was once young and scared,
scared what might happen,
and what happened? Not much.
Brakes, oil, little things, seals leak,
cars get old, it's ok.
It's gonna be O.K.
So take care of yourself,
I'm sure you'll find someone else
to terrorize into giving away
too much of themselves for the illusion of safety,
and by the way
I bought a Hyundai.
And it's fucking fan-tastic.

I love the stage musical treatment here and am hearing all sorts of added parts in my head. Very cool adaptation and highlight on what otherwise seems ordinary.
@toms Feb 2022
This is sooooo good. Also. I miss my Pinto, dammit.
@jeustan Feb 2022
Ah, I am very glad this is happening. The first was a massively clever combo of wit and sentimentality and here you've continued that very fine line. I laughed heartily at the end, a punchline induced laugh spiked with nostalgia and real feeling. Super great stuff.
This is the first song I've heard of yours and I really enjoy your voice.
@fearlessflight2014 Feb 2022
Ha! I’m really enjoying how this story is unfolding! I love how this echoes the original but has such a different emotional characterisation. So fun!
@loveonamixtape Feb 2022
Love that Zappa-esque intro, and the concept is hilarious and wonderfully executed! More response songs among FAWMers, please! Love your dramatic delivery on the last verse, too. Listened to these back to back and it was a DELIGHT.
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
Ha ha I too fell in love with the original song, so am so pleased to find this one spawned by it, so to speak :)
What a voice you have !!! Kinda reminds me of Freddie Mercury when you belt it out.
You have given me an idea...
@ttg105 Feb 2022
The original tune was great, and this one's a worthy successor. I laughed at "You're not in love,
you're just drunk right now" and the last two lines. Emotionally powerful as well!
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Oh yes this is brilliant as i loved @rayboneor 's tune and to hear the response is a joy. You two should do an album of this!! how unique would that be. And i love the drama and expression in the vocals at the end. Brilliant guys.
@cleanshoes Feb 2022
You had me from the intro. This riffs on Danny's original in the best possible way. Those last two verses had me laughing out loud. "And what happened? Not much."
@bradbrubaker Feb 2022
Hahahaha those ending lines! I like your almost operatic vocal presentation as well that sells it so well.
@downburst Feb 2022
Wow, this is amazing. It keeps up that feeling or faux-feeling from Danny's song and deepens the... mythology of it all.
@rayboneor Feb 2022
Yeah, the intro and sign off are brilliant. You had me laughing at the suggestion that the Warranty might be drunk. When he sobers up he'll surely realize that there ain't no way he's gonna restore that '85 Pinto to cherry condition for free, and he'll stop calling. Probably not, though. Love it!
(Remove the collab...are you out of your mind? This is my ideal of collaboration. I have dozens of half-baked ideas. My dream is that people more talented than me will round them all into shape and let me know when I hit 14 songs.)
@frenchcricket Feb 2022
That brilliant intro! What a fantastic lyric: so witty and you deliver it with panache.
@spikedirection Feb 2022
that sign off is exquisite! What makes this whole saga even more hilarious is how straight you've both played it. I'm playing Danny's song on my XRP Radio show tomorrow night and it'd be great to include this marvelous response as well if I have your permission?
@mikehex Feb 2022
Love the opening "O sakes alive" riff. Great response to Danny's song of obsessive entrapment
@majordanby Feb 2022
Great comedy number, lots of witty lyrics and the performance is great too. Reminiscent of Flight of the Conchords which is never a bad thing.
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Clever and witty answer song, love the inspiration! Last line really made me smile.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
I loved Dannys song so this was a must! Really well done! Compelling vox, with that same Danny wit. Ha ha . Good one
