MM: Snagging lifewithtomcat's lyrics for my first cut because I HAVE to get this chorus out of my head.
At brunch, you placed your hand
On my back and whispered,
“You have beautiful eyes.”
I blushed and asked your name.
You knew you had landed
A needy one, an easy
One. You knew that. You knew.
On the phone later, you
Told me I was special.
I didn’t believe you. No.
You wait for me to fall.
You knew you had landed
A needy one, an easy
One. You knew that. You knew.
A date turned into six years.
When things fell apart, you
Told me we should end it.
You knew you would be fine.
You knew you had landed
A needy one, an easy
One. You knew that. You knew.
You knew you had landed
A needy one, an easy
One. You knew that. You knew.

"You knew you would be fine" - that's the line that brings it all home. Sad, but beautiful. Excellent music for the lyrics, and your voice really emotes the longing and sadness in the text. Excellent collab!

I've commented on the lyrics elsewhere. This is a lovely treatment of the lyrics. The easy one/needy one lines flow so beautifully and make for such an effective hook. Now I have that chorus stuck in my head! You capture the sad quality of the lyric in a catchy, compelling way. And I like your voice :)

Ah poor narrator... well at least he got six years. My poor narrator in my Valentine story got a couple of weeks before her parents put pressure on her to dump me because I was Liverpool Irish (and therefore "common") and also I was a goy and she was a Jewish Princess.. so it goes.

Ah man, I feel sorry for the character in the lyrics. I'm sure they have more worth than portrayed. Great interpretation of the lyrics.

Great storytelling and nice how comes straight in with the vocal - really attention grabbing. Really lovely collab.

Beautiful, the chorus is hooky and heartbreaking. The verses grow the story’s garden well. @lifewithtomcat ’s poem is wonderful and so is the song you crafted out of it! ️

Catchy chorus hook. Elegantly simple song. Great to hear such heartfelt words so well delivered
Nice job :)

Nice collab: you bring that hook out well.

Woke up to this. Chills! And tears. It is based on real life, so it hits home hard. So beautiful, thank you!

This is touching and so sad. Sometimes others can treat us as expendable and it's a cold and cruel truth. Nice song.

What a perfect collab! There’s a knack to writing lyrics that punch exactly where they need to, simple and sharp - and there’s a knack to bringing those lyrics to life in a way that doesn’t overcomplicate or get in their way - but gives them new twists and turns. Love the full stops in the writing, the diminishing sentences as the repetition builds in the chorus, and also love acoustic track on a pop punk album feel, the melody drop just when it should to be surprising and just right. Awesome start!

Achingly beautiful in its simplicity. I love the sincere delivery and the mix, though simple, sounds really good. Thanks for sharing your collaboration, and do more!
