Well, 24 hours ago I didn't think I was going to be doing FAWM again this year. Then a little encouragement from @mikeskliar and here I am :-) Just vocals and guitar, think I'm going to have to keep it simple this year because I can't remember much about Logic, haha.
I hope I can think of more songs!
Thanks so much for listening.
No One Else to Blame
My eyes are open
That bond has been broken
I cry awake
It’s not the journey
I had intended to take.
Then that Virginia creeper wrapped around my ankles in the light of day.
CHORUS
Crucify myself
When there’s no one else
Crucify myself
There’s no one else to blame.
Is there a lesson to be learned before it’s too late?
So many questions to debate
while I’m digging my own grave.
I taste dirt and salt and fury even on the quietest of days.
CHORUS

Hey Angelina, this is quite beautiful! "Crucify myself" is such a strong phrase, both in it's literal meaning and how it rolls off the tongue! I was loving it every time you sang it! Lovely vocals too! The lyrics are excellent with a great title and I especially love "I taste dirt and salt and fury even on the quietest of days." This is a truly awesome new song and maybe my favorite of yours this year! Great work!!!
@unpronounceable Mar 2022
I love the breath you take between 'been' and 'broken'. This is a really solid song. I love it as it is and could also imagine it as a fully produced song. So relatable and such a clear message. Well freaking done.
@matthew62 Mar 2022
This is a melancholy gem. starkly beautiful. Everything fits together perfectly. I listened twice. Well done.
@roy Mar 2022
What a cool song. I've just started my March listening phase of FAWM and now I'm kicking myself for not having bounced over here during the month of.
This is tremendous, great story-telling guitar playing, and your voice is amazing, especially in the chorus. Very powerful doubling or re-singing or whatever you did, it was effective. I will definitely be listening to more of your tracks!
@crisp1 Mar 2022
Gritty truth-telling, albeit a bit cryptic, told in a really nice sounding melody with great vocals and a dash of harmony. I like the way you have that long last line in each verse and you speed up the delivery of the words.
@nancycunning Feb 2022
Oh, the rhythm of those verse is so insidious just like Virginia creeper and kudzu. And the chorus is beautifully painful. Love how you sing and play.
(Aside.....The crucify myself line reminds me of driving across Nebraska changing the radio because all I could find was Tori Amos's Crucify song, and I did not want to listen to Christian radio...)
@williamhaight Feb 2022
Love this!! So simple and sweet picking. Love the crucify myself when there's no one else to blame! Thanks for the kind words on Perfect!
@kenficara Feb 2022
I love the uneven/unconventional timing of the words, especially in the first verse — breaking the first line in an unexpected place and then that last line is like going over a waterfall into the chorus. Which is so simple and powerful.
Meanwhile musically it sounds a bit like a Beatle ballad.
@kvnwoodruff Feb 2022
Wowza, that chorus is hauntingly beautiful. Love your voice and style.
@elesimo Feb 2022
Lovely vocals and playing, I'm happy that Mike convinced you! You have such a great voice, it's beautiful!
@spirulence Feb 2022
The playing is wonderful, and the singing is the right balance of sweet and depressing. Doubling your vocals works really well here. This feels like soft vintage felt going in the ears.
@slawbleu Feb 2022
Hiiii!! So nice to see you again! I love this song -- you had me at "Virginia creeper" :) As always, impeccable songcraft and a lovely performance.
@leavesong Feb 2022
"I taste dirt and salt and fury even on the quietest of days." Just wow. I wish I had said that. There's an eerie vibe and sweet hook in this song. What a great way to start your album. Welcome back!
@downburst Feb 2022
So good to hear your voice. I love how close you sound, like you're whispering in my ear. The Virginia creeper line is a nice surprise.
@apauls Feb 2022
Thanks for your kind comment on "Sputnik I"! I really enjoy the pace of this song - it's got good movement while kind of stepping intentionally, if that makes sense. I really enjoy your voice, I'm kind of getting Lucinda Williams vibes. It's great!
@chrisshepard Feb 2022
Wow! I was digging the verse, very fitting for inclusion in a good tv show, and then you go into such a great, catchy, heavy chorus...Heavy even with such a soft touch is quite a feat!
@jessi14 Feb 2022
I love the sinister lyrics. You created lovely melodies and I like the double voices in the chorus! You were still on my watchlist from a past FAWM, so I am stoked to be able to listen to your fresh tunes!
@vegansongs Feb 2022
Bittersweet. Love it. Very soothing, comforting while your lyric twists and digs in.. Yes, dirt, salt and fury. I want more!
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Ahhh so so so good to see you back. I was wondering whether you'd manage to be here and i am overjoyed to hear this on this bleak feb morning. firstly the guitar and vocals are perfection but the whole song has such a classic feel to it. I love how the verse melody flows then the move to a different major key for the chorus works so well.Stunning lovely and oooo i've missed that gorgeous voice
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
great to see ya back here, and thanks for the shoutout in the liner notes! As I predicted, you created another great one! This really comes together so well- that fingerpicking sound totally draws out the pathos and emotion of the lyric. Lyric's got alot of powerful lines, with that great balance of 'enough poetry to be engaging & striking , but still grounded and relatable'. Great work, and welcome back!
@cloudboy Feb 2022
Lovely chorus - that progression is killer. Lyrically it's pretty dark but musically pretty light. I enjoy when a song can do that. Welcome back!
@deathboy Feb 2022
liking all of this <3
wonderful stuff :)
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
good to see you back, Mike tipped me off but you were on my watchlist anyway. Lovely song, cool lyrics love the way you sing "crucify"
@carlo Feb 2022
Fantastic! I love the chorus—total “vibe” as the kids would say
@davidsnyder Feb 2022
Really nice! GREAT lyrics!
