Feb 2022 instrumental children mixed meter mixolydian
I'm a music teacher. I've recently been deep diving into Edwin Gordon's Music Learning Theory. In it he suggests a rich tonal and rhythmic environment helps to develop audition, including music of mixed meters and different modalities. So this is a little tune like the ones I would sing for my little ones while we do a moving activity. Only I keyed it too high and I wore out my voice singing through a mask so I put it into classroom instruments. Mixolydian tonality and mixed meter 7/8 and 6/8

Cute and this works. Love the name! Thanks for making something very interesting with the tonality and meter.

This is great. So easy to listen to on one level and so intriguing on another. Your little ones are very lucky to have you as a teacher :)

OOoooh--something I have yet to do: unusual time signatures. I have to catch my breath to do something in 12/8.
Very, very nice job on this! Nice arrangement!

Thanks for that little lesson. I enjoyed the song, enjoyed that wood block sound especially in contrast to the bells. Beautiful!

Hello Ms. Pierce.I am Mr. McGaughey. I am also an elementary school music teacher. I listened 3 times with Mrs. B's Grade 1 class. The first time, we sat and listened. The second time, we danced around the room. The third time, we played along with unpitched instruments. Here are the children's comments:
J: Nice and classic kind of music.
M. I liked it because I like that kind of music.
K. I like the music because it calmed me down.
R: It was relaxing.
B: I also liked it because it calmed me down.
K: I liked playing the instrument. I used the wood blocks.
S: I liked it because it was really relaxing.
Mr. McGaughey I liked it because I could clearly pick out all the Orff instruments needed to play it. It was simple enough to play by ear but those rhythms were rich and complex when put together.
